Engine chirp when cold

I have a chirp from the engine bay when cold, and usually disappears when warned up.
“Oh, you need to replace the… {insert offending items here}”
I’d agree, except I replaced the two belts, pulleys and tensioners early this year. Along with the water pump. And ac compressor. And alternator. All genuine parts courtesy of Duckworths.

The noise appears to come from the left side of the engine (facing the car) so visibility and access is limited by the fan and cowling. That also rules out the steering pump.
I have no charging issues so the belts are turning the alternator.

I had a look under the car while it chirped and sprayed the bottom pulley next to the alternator (seems the most likely culprit) and noticed this…

Engine running…

Engine stopped…

The belt is close to one edge on that pulley (that’s the alternator next to it). I’ve checked every other part the belts touch, and everything is on properly and where it should be… so just that one pulley.

Is that a problem? Did I fit it incorrectly? Do I need to replace that pulley again somehow? Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

Just been reading up on this, new to me, engine.

I believe the crank pulley has a damper so when at tick over it sort of wobbles but as soon as the revs rise above tick over it straightens out... Thumbs Up Pete

Mine’s chirpy when cold even though I had all the belts, tensioners and idlers replaced last year. Noise comes from the belt where it goes over the alternator ( place of max belt load) and think the belt has become oil contaminated at some point and lost it’s grip. Tried brake cleaner and belt dressing which fixes it instantly but the noise returns at next cold start. Going to have to get a new belt I reckon as it’s a very irritating noise and turns heads. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

That describes mine all too well.
Does the belt replacement require the removal of the shroud and fan? And if contaminated, do you need to clean the pulleys etc?
I’ve used some graphite spray on that pulley and it worked, albeit a wide spray so may have covered other components. Let’s see how it sounds the next time she starts from cold. Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

Censored

Ok, another job lined up for her. I still have vacuum hoses to replace so will tie it all in together. I’m in no rush as it’s not a problem or going to break. lts just irritating and embarrassing (along with the brake squeel Laughing ) Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

Spray some water on the belt and if the noise goes away it's the belt and not an imminent problem. If the noise persists then it could be a bearing which you need to sort ASAP as it can fail and it will take out the belt. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

mine (2012 4.4TDV8) chirps when cold - most years it goes away in spring but this year it still happens a bit, especially on cooler days. I have had the belt tensioner mod done too. 2012 L322 4.4 TDV8 AB low mileage - a peach

Cheers JayGee. I’ll give that a go and will prioritise accordingly. Thumbs Up

Range Rover L322, what tensioner mod are you referring to? What issue does that resolve? Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

I wasn't aware of a 'mod' either and thought it was just replace when it's worn or belt is running off the edge. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

LR022810 is the idler pulley tensioner upgrade.
If you search "LR022810" or "4.4 TDV8 Belt tensioner replacement" on the forum it is worth having a read.

This is one of the threads https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic48934.html

It took me a while to find one but I think Dr Rob managed to get one overnight.

Interesting…

With the help of Duckworths I ordered all the parts needed to replace “the lot”. That included the Tensioner Pulley (LR022809) but the Land Rover Bracket (LR022810) was not included in that.

https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.com/l...aring.html
The technical drawing at the site above shows them both.
I checked my invoices and received (therefore swapped) the top right tensioner pulley (labelled 6B209) but have no reference to the new part number anywhere, or anything matching that description or price… this is the one top left in that drawing (labelled 8632).

I did order 4 x pulleys, and from that diagram it looks like that includes the pulley in the “missing” bracket. I’m struggling with the LRCat sites at the moment so cannot confirm… but am pretty confident I swapped just the pulley in that bracket rather than the entire “upgraded” bracket.

Do I need to consider replacing the bracket if there is a new-ish pulley fitted?

Parts ordered:
LR024791 - Fan Pulley
LR025083 - 80mm idler
LR022953 - 65mm Idler
LR022809 - Tensioner Pulley
LR025988 - Pulley
LR022803 - Belt
LR022804 - Belt Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8
