EGR cooler leak td6 2004

Morning Gents

I have been losing coolant and narrowed it down yesterday to the EGR cooler.

I have seen several threads about thermostat leaking and even complete removal.

Does it mainly seem to be the thermostat that causes leaks, it's not a massive leak more of a persistent drip and im topping up once a month perhaps.

Just want to be aware of any other usual suspects before i tear it down.

Thanks

Given the robust construction of the egr heat exchanger l would be surprised if that was the source of your leak ( to be proven wrong), the egr thermostat is however a different matter. There’s two possible sources of leaks from the thermostat body, namely the bleed screw and more likely the rubber o ring that connects it to the heat exchanger.
Changing the o ring isn’t difficult, just a case of removing the thermostat and a bit of a clean up and fitting the new ring which is available from duckworths.
Somewhere there is a write up by me as to how to easily remove the thermostat. Thumbs Up

NIce Day thanks, that's encouraging, given the price of the thermostat might as well change it out, i havent got the fluctuating temperature thing yet but it seems to take longer to warm up!

If you are going to go for changing the engine thermostat, l definitely would, you will need to remove the engine viscous fan in which case removing the egr cooler complete with egr thermostat is straightforward.
I changed my engine thermostat last year, vast improvement in engine warming and final running temperature.
My mpg also went up surprisingly.

To be honest if it's just the thermostat that's leaking I'll probably leave the cooler/egr in place, rather keep it stock as far as possible.

Looking forward to getting that fan off not! it was off a few years back for an alternator so hopefully wont be too bad.
