Having my leg pulled surely ?

Hi all some advice please. Car in RR dealers for oil service, new brake pads front and rear and to look in to fault with gear box where it shunts from 2 to 1st when pulling up. Collected car last night and as I drove on the motorway the following errors appeared
HDC fault
Transmission fault
Lowering suspension
with the traction control and the amber brake light warning lamp all remaining illuminated. Stopped the car and everything reset. However when ever I went over 70mph all errors re-appeared.
So......took car back today everything now seems to be fixed. Cause / fault explained as faulty break pedal switch which must have been knocked OR became faulty coincendtally. Of course no cost to fix Sir.
Now I am no mechanic but can someone please tell me what the relationship between a break pedal switch, and the errors above might be or am I having my leg pulled ?

Ideas ?

I can't comment on all your issues. The Shunt aka 'Lurch' as known to X5 owners, is a real pain and well documented on the web. You don't mention the age or model of the FFRR. I sold my X5 because i couldn't live with the poor gearbox and didn't fancy spending a fortune on a rebuild/fishing trip.
Best of luck Ian

I would imagine the gearbox is different, i'm not sure. If its under warranty dont be fobbed off. Ian

I also noticed the brake pedal switch causing all kinds of warnings when it breaks in the forums, so again the mechanic could be right. That is modern electronics for you, one tiny little switch fails and the whole thing is in ruins. Must be all the bits and bytes getting lost in cyberspace Smile

Sometimes I long back for my first car, Triumph Herald, simple so you could keep it running with a screwdriver, adjustable spanner and electrical tape Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

To hopefully add some value to the OP, I had the same lurch on the 2 -> downshift, which was actually a nasty bang if you were trickling up to a junction and decided to go for a gap. This was on my D3 V8. The cure for me was 3 things.
1. Get the gearbox ECU updated by the dealer. There is a map to help alleviate this.
2. Flush the transmission fluid as completely as possible.
3. reset the gearbox adaptives to remove any bad habits it miht have learned.

Not a 100% cure but certainly 90% better.

Some details of what I found on the web when researching this.

If you examine each system in detail (=read the manual), you'll see that each system has some sort of input from the brake light switch. Yes our very electronic cars are a long shot off the primitive mechanical vehicles we used to ride in - and that allows us to have power levels that used to be only supercar territory, consumption that used to require driving an econobox, safety that could not be achieved back then (DSC, SRS,etc), GPS guidance, etc, etc, etc

Very Happy I thought it would only be time before the 'Shirley' factor was mentioned.

Thanks all for comments. Looks like I should be less sceptical about garages and especially main dealers !!
