Noises?

Slight ‘clonk/clank’ sound very occasionally from rear of vehicle on moving off when making right turn on slight incline…..also very slight ‘drone’ at 20 - 25mph on smooth surfaces, none of this at high speed…..any ideas? Can’t re-create the ‘clonk/clank’, just aware of it very occasionally……

Is it a judder when moving off and turning?

If so, see technical bulletin 00906, relating to the transfer case double flush and software update...

Thanks for your reply. There is a definite noise when turning right from a standing start coming from the rear of the vehicle best described as a ‘clonk/clank’….it happens very rarely and I cannot re-create it. I’m also aware of a slight droning sound at 20 - 25mph…..

Thanks for that Stan. I don’t think it’s that. The sound is more of a ‘clonk/clicking’ sound as against a thumping noise….hard to describe…..more like somethings loose/worn but I’ll try keeping the tank over half full and see what happens, thanks again Thumbs Up

I had similar with a clunk from rear on right turn. The double flush and software update fixed it no issues since.

Thanks Tomo, were you getting the clunking on a regular basis or very occasionally? Thanks

The clunking was just now and then, it could go days without doing then it appeared. It would some times be clunk clunk, very subtle but it was there. Always on a right turn. When it went in to LR, they knew what it was straight away. Since the flush and software update its been fine. ------------------------------------------

I wonder if this is what I'm experiencing. Pulling out of a junction and turning left or right, or entering a small tight roundabout from standstill, I can hear and feel resistance from the nearside rear. Feels like a lot of friction/like somethings locked up? Reminds me of the sort of sound you would expect if you had a diff lock in and tried to turn too tight?

Drone could be tyre resonance & unrelated.
Last year we had a metallic, slightly tinny “clonk clank” on ours but only when reversing slowly over a slightly uneven surface with some right-hand lock on. I thought it was heat shields as being the tinniest thing under there, hard to say where it was coming from, sounded like the front end, but weirdly after changing the xfer box oil it disappeared. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?
