New purchase 4.4tdv8 deployable steps stuck

Apologies all plenty of issues to correct on my new purchase/project /keeper I have the deployable steps fitted one is stuck fully deployed and the other stuck fully closed they don’t seem to operate at all button on headliner doesn’t do anything or lights up

Is the best approach to remove and free/up anything that can be tested ? Or best just to remove and forget about … just seems a nice option if they worked lol

they are a nice option to have. IIRC the button doesn't actually operate them as such, so pressing it doesn't deploy the steps. I can't remember exactly what it does as its been a while since I fitted them to my 322 but if memory serves it holds them

If you press and hold the roof button for 3 seconds within 5 seconds of ignition on it will deploy the steps for roof access. As I recall they will stay deployed until you repeat the process, the vehicle is locked or travels at >~3MPH.

I find deployable sides steps are a nice option. Things to be aware of are:


    They need to be removed to Jack the car
    They can be a pig to get off if they been on for a while
    They are awkward to realign with the brackets when you put them back on as the “movable” nuts corrode into the step body and so don’t move at all requiring precise realignment


Once you get the step bodies off the mechanism is actually quite straightforward. There’s a motor each side and a link rod between the two step brackets. Lube it all well with a general purpose grease once in a while and they should work reliably. ( At least mine do).

Lube the hell out of the joints as first port of call.
Once lubed put the car in off road height, lay down (but not under) and feel the motor with your hand while someone else opens a door. That should give you an idea if the motor is gone.

I'll just say it - don't put your arm between the car and the steps Rolling Eyes
Same for getting under the car - ONLY ONLY ONLY with axle stands Thumbs Up

Not really - what I do is just leave a door ajar which leaves the steps out and also prevents suspension adjustments allowing you to jack.
