2019 Range Rover Vogue SE 2.0 PHEV Siberian Silver

Even the first jack the tyre shop had wasn’t tall enough.

They brought in the six ton truck one.

Answer seems to be jack up the lower suspension arm, not the actual chassis.

As I said before, it is NOT advised to jack on a suspension arm, the arm moves through an arc when jacked, it also leaves the whole corner under compression, it is very easy for the jack to slip off, this can damage parts of the car or even worse parts of you if you happen to be in the way when it lets go, it will not give any warning, it just spits the jack out...

The answer is to buy a jack with enough lift or leave it to someone else.... Thumbs Up Pete

Interesting thread.
@Pete (Haylands):

You mention jacking under the lower suspension arm, (if you know what you are doing).
Can you expand on this please? Presumably for example, one could use a big 3Te high-lift jack on the “official” jacking point, then gently jack under the suspension arm with a smaller jack, to lift the hub up to a more comfortable working height for access, or for whatever other reason? (i.e. not taking the weight of the vehicle on the arm, only the weight of the hub & suspension). Question

Axle stands always a must, of course! Thumbs Up “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Yes my advice is... don't do it...

The suspension arm rises and falls through an arc that's direction is across the car
The jack rises through an arc the other way when in situ...

This makes it very dodgy, the suspension assembly is under compression and wants to spit the jack out, as the jack rises it gets worse and worse.

Using another jack to slightly raise the corner to clear the wheel from the ground will work, but again it's not recommended...

If you do take that route make sure the car is on level hard ground, at least one other wheel is chocked, the boot is open (or a door) to stop the suspension levelling, and you have an axle stand underneath a jacking point, at the least throw the spare wheel under the sill...

It's not fun if it falls off the jack and you can do a lot of expensive damage, or end up badly injured.

Most breakdown services will change a spare wheel so best to leave it to them if you can... Thumbs Up Pete

Was with trolley jack, but with the motion on the spanner, it rocked off, i had axle stands too, but they just fell over, my drive is not straight.

That is indeed scary.

The scissor jack is notoriously weak, but sounds like you had taken reasonable precautions.

I hope you feel better soon.

Wishing you a speedy recovery Mark!

Jacking up cars, and being under axle stands as well as stories from my dad of cars falling, is exactly what eventually lead me to this purchase!
