United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Orkney Grey

Having started this thread way back in August, I have at last also bought a kit from UAD.
Will be handing over to my local indy for installation hopefully early next month. 2011 L322 TDV8 A/b Orkney Grey
2008 Defender 90 XS TDCi Java Black
2002 L322 TD6 Vogue Zambezi Silver (gone but not forgotten)
And one or two bikes - Ok, maybe more than one or two....

Good luck with that.
Do you mind me asking; how much is the Indy charging you to install? Just to give me a rough idea
Thanks

Remains to be seen I'm afraid. We didn't get into discussing that.
To my knowledge, he's not installed one of these before.

I could probably do the job myself. But I've tasked him with this exercise for his (proven) knowledge and skill in respect of how the interior trim components of these cars fit together.
Something which I readily concede that I lack.

The most recent invoice I have from him is dated December 2021.
This shows an hour's labour at £125 plus VAT.
Meaningless at this point as we don't know how long the install will take.
And sadly I may never really know as I've booked to have a front/rear dashcam kit installed at the same time.

I think I can safely say that it is not going to be cheap.

Thanks, I imagine it’s a few hours.

I have had the dash apart etc to change the trim and it’s not difficult at all. Just rather a lot of screws!
I think it’s the pulling apart of the radio unit itself that I’m slightly concerned about! And the wiring connectors on to to the circuit board.
When the time comes I might pull everything apart and give the radio unit to an electrician to do.

Anyway, good luck with yours. I hope you enjoy it. It’s nice to retrofit new tech to our old cars!

Cheers

My local audio sound specialist was $700 US. Took about 8 hours. One nice touch I noticed is they ran the included microphone up to the rear view mirror. I also had them install the usb connector to the inside of the center arm rest console next to the iPod and usb ports. Very professional looking and no visible wires.

Be aware that when the professional installer I engaged to do mine undertook the work he found that the OEM system had be accessed before leaving the PCB connectors in his words “superglued” back on. These fell apart in his hands and the whole touch screen needed replacing. Fortunately, as he’s well connected, he was able to get a replacement screen at cost, so it wasn’t disastrously expensive. But care is needed when adding the additional circuit board to the OEM system.

I’d recommend watching “Sam’s motor & machine” YouTube video on the installation before doing it yourself.

Is Unique Ad the only place to buy this?

I think it probably is. UAD's parent company is Idcore. UAD'S website suggests that Idcore is the manufacturer. I don't think I've seen advertising anywhere suggesting any third party franchising - I could be wrong of course.

There is at the time of writing a privately advertised kit on eBay. This would enable a saving on the retail price. But you would then not benefit from the protections of the Sale of Goods Act, or indeed after sales support from the retailer.

I have a new (to me) 2016 L405 coming next week which I’d love to put the UAD Car Play kit into.

Warwick is your new kit now installed? Happy with it?
Are there any discount codes available for use? 2016 (L405) Autobiography in Black with Ivory - for ULEZ
2014 (L405) VSE in Black with Ivory
2011 (L322) VSE in Black with Ivory
2005 (3.2 V6) Porsche Cayenne in Black with Savanna
1999 (P38) VSE in Burgundy (?) with Sand

The UAD kit I have is L322 specific and so not suitable for your L405.

There are however various alternative offerings available from other vendors and indeed UAD themselves which are advertised as suitable, some of which may have been fitted to forum member's cars.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Is it known if the kit will fully function if your factory Bluetooth module has been bypassed?

Best I think to put that question to UAD themselves.

They answered back.

Hi Tumbler,

Thanks for getting in touch.

This is the compatible product for your 2011 L322 Range Rover https://unique-ad.co.uk/product/wireless-a...2009-2012/

Yes, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will both fully function without OEM bluetooth connected. All phone calls will go through the new microphone we provided in our box.

This model is currently in stock and we can dispatch tomorrow if ordered today.

Kind regards,
Laura

This would be a good alternative to buying a new bluetooth module if anyone's failed. Mines on its way out, therefore once it finally dies I'll swap it out as I have other maintenance items that are more pressing.

i have android unit from unique-ad and it is not perfect solution.
Hands-free quality is really low. You need to switch to aux to hear someone.
Is not possible to turn off handsfree in settings. After switch off it turns on after few seconds.
Only solution at this moment is to disable permission for voice calls in android auto app on your phone. But then you dont see who is calling in android mode.
Switching between modes with red hang up button is stupid - you cant change mode during phone call.
Phone charging is slooooow, to weak for Samsung Fold 3
It connects after door open - so when you talk with your phone and open doors then you loose voice.
Not possible force settings to use wired android auto - it will automatically switch to wireless, even if you don't want to.

Jimmie is absolutely right.
I installed the system about a year ago, and yes it's ok but very buggy with android auto
and over the top with apple car play (connects just with the ignition on) for this kind of money I did expect better.
Another bug (which is IMO very big) the sound quality is quite poor. You have to do a lot of fiddling with the EQ settings in the software to get any were near ok.
Also there aftercare service is no good, I have tried several times to use there online help but no one is ever their
