England 2014 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Loire Blue

There is a specific sequence to pressure bleed in the WM..

I've had no issues with gravity bleeding when just changing callipers though. There shouldn't be any air in lines, just an empty calliper... Thumbs Up Pete

Brake bleeding

Hi JayGee

Any pressure kit you would recommend? Some advertised for £30 - £45.

I would also advise freeing the brake nipples in-between brake flushing period and bleeding. A new caliper costing £1000 alone if needed. Fortunately my local garage got one nipple out and replaced for me for a £100 plus the cost of brake flush he did.

I can't recommend a particular model but just avoid the cheap ones that use you spare tyre as a pressure source. If you have an air compressor in your workshop there are good ones that can use this. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Screwfix used to stock it much cheaper, I also got the method wrong, so it might have worked much better, had I done it right Embarassed I changed all 4 hoses. (and calipers), so probs lost a lot of fluid even though I clamped the hoses, when you disconnect them, there is no way to stop air getting in.

Make sure air can easily get out of your collector jar, -that was my mistake, and reduced the flow significantly, being paranoid about not wanting brake fluid all over my driveway! Embarassed Laughing “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

At the risk of opening a whole new can of worms (which I’m good at) Embarassed I VERY CAREFULLY AND NEATLY wrapped the nipple threads in PTFE tape, to act as a physical barrier between the dissimilar metals rather than to seal anything.
The threads are outboard of the sealing cone, so the PTFE shouldn’t be able to get into the brake fluid anyway.
You have to be careful only to tape the threads and nothing more.
Has it worked? Dunno, maybe I’ll find out in a few years’ time Laughing “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

2011 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Stornoway Grey

They all opened albeit with a bit of a creak. Front ofs outboard didn’t have any flow so I’ll get a new nipple for that one. Although I might take it out and try and poke a bit of wire in it to see if there’s just a blockage. Pedal better but I suspect will be even better with that 4th nipple bled properly Dec 2021- 2010 Facelift TDV8 4.4 AB in Stornoway Grey.

@goldstar,

Given the low cost, I ‘d just replace all the nipples with new as a matter of course.
There are nipples made out of various materials available, but I can’t vouch for them, I’ve got the standard ones myself.
Even if you used stainless, its still two dissimilar metals. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?
