Warranty - Who uses what?

My LR renewal came through today, an eye-watering £1700, up around £400 from last year. 1700 is a chunky sum of money so wondering what other people use? 2017 Vogue SE

Just had the same, I'm keeping £1,700 for spares, I'll fit them myself, maybe I'll come out on top....... Pete

Try Searching on here for “Warranty”, there are loads of threads, not much need to add one more Thumbs Up “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Aye, trouble is one hefty bill can wipe out 1700 pretty easily. 1700 quid for a warranty. Jeez. 2017 Vogue SE

There is also a lot that is not covered so you could end up paying the £1,700 and then a load more on top...?? Pete

I bought an RAC 3 year warranty for my Sport, £800 for 3 years cover at 10k miles per year(18 months ago)
Had to use it once for a Nox sensor. They paid out with no issues, although I used an independent who wasn’t on their list so had to pay up front and claim the money back.

I bought the policy through the dealer I bought the car from and didn’t realise the hourly labour rate has a maximum of £65 an hour, not much use close to London or anywhere these days I suspect. If I had bought the policy independently, I’d have paid the same but had an hourly rate of £100 Big Cry

+1 for banking the warranty money when we chose not to renew, just hoping for a good few years to build up the pot with the £1700's. In my case I forgot to renew on time, so needed the £1700 + the inspection fee so kinda forced my hand.

That said we got a good 4k out of the warranty coverage in the last year we had it so I will probably regret the decision in the long term. Sold - Bell a 2015 MY16 Loire Blue Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

£1700 is big money so i,m going to give it a miss and pay for any repairs, saves me being upset when they won't pay for something also. overfinch modified

TBH, this topic has been done to death, on Pistonheads and most other forum marques.

There are predominantly 3 schools of thought:

(1) Pay up and hope.

(2) Save up and hope.

(3) Do nothing and hope.

You choose.

Life is a risk, you manage it how you think best. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Done to death? Of course it has, much like PCP vs HP vs cash, doesn't stop it being relevant though. I asked if anyone used another company, that question is relevant to me now, today. If someone got a good deal from Company X last week then that's more relevant than someone who got an RAC Warranty 18 months ago which, incidentally, you can't buy directly. 2017 Vogue SE

I have used LR assist a few times in my 2 Y ownership. On my drive repairs if possible, if not, immediately booked in at the dealers that same day, no waiting for an appointment, and an hire car booked as well waiting for you.
Dealer has to squeeze you in, as I heard, the hire car charge goes on to MD account after a certain time point.

It's been worth it for me. Just renewed again, and now with the potential a vin change range! Whistle of these knuckle failures, it's better to have a warranty than not in my view. 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

@Spleen,

Well I think I got a great deal, so think a few others* and the information is on this forum already and available via the Search function, THAT’s my point.

Read my posts, I try to be as helpful as possible to fellow forum members, whilst injecting a bit of tongue-in-cheek humour now and again, but laziness irritates me, and I apologise for that.

So why not go out there, go and get a great deal, and then post it here for the benefit of your FFRR brethren in the spirit of this forum, that would be fantastic, wouldn’t it? Thumbs Up

* - Opinions will vary as to what a great deal is, it’s a complex subject. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

That must be very recent.

I own a Citroen Dispatch van which had it’s 3rd birthday 4 months ago. I bought an RAC warranty for that online.

3 years cover at 12k miles per annum cost me £1000, which also includes 3 years full breakdown and recovery and has the labour rate set at £100 per hour. I thought that was quite a good deal, although it has to be said my Citroen has been far more reliable in 3 years of ownership that most of my Land Rovers have been Neutral

Looks like I got covered in the nick of time Thumbs Up
