2007 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.2 SC V8 Stornoway Grey

Put brembo discs and pads from euro car parts, no issues whatsoever, maybe I was lucky or its subjective bs. Cool

There is nothing 'wrong' with Brembo pads or disks. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I tend to avoid ECP for brakes as I am not convinced that their stock is the same quality as from other place. Maybe not quite seconds, but certainly not the same quality as stuff from other suppliers. A few mates in garages have noticed this too where customers have provided the parts, or where they've needed something last minute and only been able to get it from ECP. Autodoc on the other hand are big and cheap but good.

The only times I've ever had issues with brake components on cooking cars is with stuff that you knew was too cheap to be true to start with. Brembo/Ferodo/Pagid/Jurid/Bosch/Mintex etc are all absolutely fine. That said, I fitted some Ferodo Premier Eco pads to my BMW just after getting it (370mm front brakes should have been fine with stock pads) and they performed really well. However, in winter and when damp they left horrendous witness marks on the discs which eventually caused some pretty severe pitting under the rust, and high speed brake wobble. I ended up getting the discs skimmed at a local engineering place when I fitted the Brembo HP2000's. Since then, with the same discs but just different pads, there are no lasting witness marks left from sitting. Either the eco pads are porous and hold water more than others, or something in the brake dust is more corrosive than others. The final death sentence for them was the friction material delaminating from the backing plate (and in their defence Ferodo refunded immediately, after nearly two years!), but that was after some pretty hard driving so I'd suggest that this was incorrect use rather than a problem with the pad per se! The witness marks would put me off recommending them more than the delimitation would. Still good pads though.

For performance I'll be a lot more specific, and this covers heavier cars as they have similar issues with consistent performance as lighter, higher performance stuff. Even on my daily I now use Brembo HP2000's as they are sharper at low speed and even better once they get proper hot. I've still melted them in the Beemer but this is on roads I've melted AP's with race pads in so it's all relative. Whichever L322 I end up with I'll be fitting these and some good stock spec new discs. Other good performance pads I've used are CL/Pagid/Ferodo. I tend to avoid EBC because of inconsistency issues I've experienced in the past.

As for discs, again, high carbon is more important than the manufacturer. Some on the BMW forums swear by particular brands but as long as they're not unheard of chinesium and are high carbon they'll all be decent. Again, Brembo/Mintex/Bosch/Zimmerman etc are all more than adequate for a road car. For track and race use I'll tend to fit two piece rotors with race spec discs. The difference with these are thinner brake surfaces and a much larger air channel in the middle for ventilation and cooling. On a road car these just don't last that long unfortunately as the wear limit is usually less than OEM spec discs. The last time I replaced the rotors on the Impreza it was still parked on the road so I went with a cheaper, road style rotor with thicker braking surfaces, and on hard drives it's definitely noticeable. Braking performance is equal until they get proper hot, and then disc temperature continues to increase quite significantly. I also avoid anything drilled on ANY road car exposed to salt because it allows rust to creep in under the braking surface which eventually leads to delimitation. Grooved are fine on performance cars but have an incessant drone most of the time which gets very wearing. They do help keep pad surfaces clean but only when really driving hard, if you're just pootling around there's no benefit and they'll just wear your pads out more quickly.

I've got high speed brake judder on mine since fitting Delphi pads / Brembo ( LR branded) disks. Perfectly smooth disk surface and the runout was checked and still a mystery... 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

My LR branded Brembo front disks are officially warped (as tested by Glenrands) Big Cry Apparently I'm not the first example of LR warped disks. No idea how this has happened as I'm super careful when braking on a new disk/pad instal and that's on top of my very gentle driving style. Think I'm going to replace with non LR/Brembo disks....... 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Usually failure to clean the hub mating surface or badly refurbished wheels (excessive paint on the mating surface or damaged wheel) causes the discs to distort when cooling. Occasionally a sticking brake caliper piston can cause excessive heat on one side of the disc, this will also cause distortion upon cooling, the effect is cumulative.

Nice to see you back Phoenix Thumbs Up
I didn't fit the front disks as planned as the pins were seized in so got the garage to do it which they even struggled with and they were up against the clock at the end of the day so it's quite possible the disk / hub interface wasn't perfect. As the pins are now not an issue I'll just replace them myself but may try another brand of disk and pad. Most of the braking is at the front so I'm not going to cut corners on cost. I'm tempted to get the garage to do it again as if they go wrong again they can fix it under warranty. Just had the ball joints done again this way as they were creaking after a few months. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I went Pagid in the end. So far so good, no squeaks or squeals and the car stops!

There’s a time to use genuine and a time to use 3rd party.
On something like a 4.2 supercharged they farmed the brakes out to Bremno anyway so oem is aftermarket.

AFAIK no major car manufacturer makes their own brake parts and they are all sourced from specialist suppliers such as ATE, Brembo, TRW etc. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Likely to be that answer to a lot of things? Sanden on compressors / Pirelli on tyres / Philips er Al on bulbs etc…
I wonder what percentage of a typical car is outsourced?

The Borg&Beck disks and pads are working out well for me. Nice bite and progressive braking feel, low dust and no noise and more importantly no more judder. Still no idea why the Brembo disks warped so quickly or maybe even were warped out of the box although I do know that cast products can warp due to machining too quickly after casting. May fit B&B pads on the rears as it's an easy enough job. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)
