I was interested to read (#Balloonengineer) that this operation can be done without the need for unbolting the seat. Also that #Midlifecrisis resolved the problem with a BCU reset. (What’s that?)
The depth of knowledge and willingness to share is a major plus of this forum. I no longer have a Fatty but nevertheless I keep ‘lurking’ in the background as the discussions are so very entertaining!

i also have this problem
i have found that its usualy the rear gate thats not home fully
just bump the lower gate with your sholder, then the top gate.
then lock the car, then unlock it and usuarly its good.
if not open the doors that you can and softly slam them closed and sholder the other doors
then lock them and unlock them, good luck
i worked this out, because one night i saw the boot light was on, yet the gate looked fully closed, i bumped the door with my sholder, off went the light and i locked it then unlocked it and it worked, the doors unlocked RR 2005 4.4 petrol

I've got an intermittent problem with my 2002 3.0 diesel RR
Sometimes the rear passenger window goes down of its own accord. So far its only happened when the ignition is on, i dont come down of a morning and find the window open - not yet anyway. To get it back up normally I use the drivers door contol panel and once it's up, immediately reengage the child lock. Sometimes this doesn't work (the window refuses to budge using either the drivers door or the rear passenger door controls), and I use the IID tool to renew the BCU

Last time it happened, neither of these worked so I disconnected the battery for half an hours and then the drivers door control worked OK.

I've checked the wiring and connectors and switches as best as I can so it all points to the BCU having a fault - I got a replacement and fitted it - the trouble with that is that the key fob doesnt work the central locking.

What I didn't do was to renew the BCU with the new BCU fitted - I just swopped it back out again.

Any thoughts about the fault and would renewing the replacement BCU with the IID tool solve the central locking key fob?

Thanks for detailed instructions, they were quite useful when I swapped my BCU today. I did not need to recode it.

One question - when swapping BCU, I have noticed 6 pin plug that was not connected to anything. What it is used for?

I have 2005 RR HSE, US version.

after my last post, i still had problems.
not being able to open the rear three doors, i started locking and double locking, unlocking and repeating it over and over, with the key.
eventually, all the door locks unlocked, all the windows and the sunroof flew open,
i got in, closed all the windows and its been good since.
for the steering, i have found, and it has took me five years to find it, i turn the ignition on, wait a couple of seconds after the steering wheel has found it position, i start the car and i have power steering.
as long as i give it that couple of seconds, it works, if i don't, it doesn't RR 2005 4.4 petrol

So far I have not observed the same problems after BCU replaceme with rear doors/windows/tailgate - seems everything works. The only problem is that I can't lock remotely with keys - have use use physical key in door lock to lock/unlock it. Attempts to pair/re-pair key using the standard procedure did not help.

@invisible999 having the same issue as you have. Do you have a solution in the meantime? Current:

If you are asking about keys - I have not yet fixed yet. Locking/unlocking doors with physical key works fine. I recently got GAP ID Tool and it should have the capability to pair the key. Will look into this.

i bought several ECUs off a guy who was wreaking his range rover, same year as mine
i tried to fit one fore the air suspension, wrong number
now i have removed the BCM, only to find thats the wrong number too
the one i bought is YWC000921
mine is YWC000922
i know it will fit
but will it work, or will it do some damage RR 2005 4.4 petrol
