Interesting - Sorry I can't help, but I've had just the same experience. I'm not sure if it's revving more, but definitely louder. Again, not sure if it's the engine or the box |

Hmm, sounds similar. I guess it could be the fan spinning up faster than normal. The extra noise could make the engine sound like it's revving higher I suppose. Just been for a swiftish journey, it didn't sound too bad until I stopped for some shopping then seemed to be louder on return journey. It is possible that while stationery the temp built up and caused the fan to kick in more on way back. I have booked it into an auto trans specialist to have it checked out on Wednesday, been meaning to have the box power flushed, so if everything is fine I will get that done whilst it's there. Are you sure it's not the aircon working harder ? |

I just replaced mine at 73,000miles, definately torque converter extra rotational speed, indicated by higher Revs first indications of gearbox failure on the 5HP type anyway.

better to prepare you up front, try oil and filter change, but will only do a short term fix, recomment getting indie to meet you half way on parts and fit for free, car is to good to get rid for the sake of a gearbox. rob Current vehicles 4.2 SC FFRR RSE 2010- facelift Range Rover Evogue Dynamic Lux Gone Rejected RRS my14.5 nightmare Disco B4 XXV convert Freelander 06 SE 06 RFFRR 4.2 SC Vogue RSE Audi A8 4.2Tdi Quattro (hated with a vengence!!) 54 FFRR 2005 model V8 4.4 Cobra Variant 53 Mitsubishi Shogun V6 |

Try it stationary in P or N - if the "whoosh" builds with revs then its the viscous fan. Just had mine looked at for the same reason and thethermostat was fooked so was locking the fan on even though the engine was at normal operating temp. Should only kick in when above normal temp to prevent overheating. Only really noticed when it was getting warmer and window/sunroof was open.... Could've spent all spring driving around with a wierd sounding car - Sounded like a 747 taking off when the foot was down!! ![]() |

Sounds daft and will not seem to make sense but try lubricating the Gear Control linkage Mechanism under the car on the side of the box. Just spray with 3-in-one or WD40.

Thanks for the suggestion. Half a can of wd40 now dripping from the linkage - hey it's worth a try |
