ZF 6HP26 - 2007 3.6TDV8

Hello all, some advice needed.

My 2007 TDV8 with 190,000 miles had a slight judder in 3rd on an incliine that has been getting worse. I noticed the sleve for the mechatronics unit was weeping and decieded to do a full service.

Serviced with genuine ZF kit (followed procedure exactaly), (not sure how much oil came out as i dropped the container!) took 5.8 ltrs of Lifegard 6. Changed Mech sleve, 4 valve biody and bridge seal.

When driving now, car has same/worse judder and seems to be slipping in 4th.

I am perfectly prepared to bite the bullet and get the box refurbed, will be keeping this car indefinitely. I would like to make sure the box is toast:

What I need help with is, GAP IID and some more experienced eyes to look at the results.

What do I need to be recording on a drive to let someone who knows what to look for point me in the right direction?

Any help is very much appreciated

Thanks again

Thanks for the reply.

I have thought about a shudder fix product, if the box is toast, what harm could it do....

Thanks Dave.

So you had all the work done, including refurb, and still had issues?

How long have you got from the judder fix product so far?

Thanks again

I did all the work it's not that difficult to be honest. I think I'm 2000 miles plus with no more shudder. I will be getting the tq refurbished at some point when I can get the gearbox off.

The judder in 3rd gear up an incline will probably be caused by the torque converter lock-up clutch friction plate being worn. The torque converter can be removed, re-manufactured and replaced without having to open up the transmission (although the transmission has to come out to gain access). You can prove that it’s the LUC causing the vibration by measuring and recording live values for

• engine speed
• turbine speed
• output speed
• EDS 6 solenoid current

provided, of course, that you capture the judder during your measurement.

The slipping in 4th gear is more worrying. You need to establish if this is, in fact, the LUC slipping (rather than the E-clutch). If it is the E-clutch, then your rear stator bush may be worn – another common issue with the 6HP26. Again, the recorded live values listed above should provide the proof.

Thanks very much Phil, really appreciate you taking the time to reply here, I know you are the go to in relation to these boxes so it means a lot for you to offer the advice.

I will do a run recording those reading and see what happens.

Thanks again

Hello, so to explain my absence, I took the L322 out to do the live data logging and on my full throttle run I burst a boost hose - so between waiting on parts and having the time to do it again - I now have the results in PDF from Gap IID

I did 3 runs, light, medium and full throttle, being as steady as I could with throttle input, to 100Kmph/60MPH

I also recreated the judder by going up a steep hill.

Any help at all would be great. 100% prepared to replace the entire box but if its just the TC would be over moon.

BTW, I think I was mistaken about the car slipping in 4th.....

Thanks again all/Phil

Is it possible to post up the actual pdf files containing the captured measurements? Unfortunately the IIDTool doesn't line up the axes accurately enough to be able to analyse the graphs.

Hmmm, not sure what’s happened there. Usually the data looks like this:

but most of it appears to be missing:

Does IIDTool give you the option to export the captured live values as a .csv file?
