L405 Service Interval Indication

Hi,
I've had my L405 a week now and I'm getting an occasional 'Service Required' message. At this stage I'm guessing at oil dilution triggering this, but it's only a guess. I've seen other users mention accessing a distance to go on the service menu, but I can't see that on mine - it only offers oil level, last alarm and VIN - Is there something I am missing here to get a distance to go or was it a later addition?

Thanks in advance

I'm not sure if it was ever added as a menu option, but if you buy a code reader that plugs into the ODB port you can see the information that way.

The IID Tool is the best of these, but I have a cheap Autel AP200 which does everything I need.

BTW - I agree it's likely oil dilution and an oil change would be a good move. It's fairly easy to DIY.

You're not alone, there was a similar post last week https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic73336.html

Yes, search “dilution” on here & get reading! 198 threads mention this Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Actual dilution is nowhere as bad as the cars’ algorithm might suggest in my experience (with regular oil sample analysis), however any dilution is bad, so many on here change oil & filter twice a year as a matter of course, on the basis that £50 worth of oil & filter is cheaper than a new engine. So with the aid of my new OBD reader I was able to see that there is an implied dilution of over 10%, which answers the original question. Oil change tomorrow and oil reset to follow.

With great respect.
I think I have invented a way to create free oil then Whistle

I always get a smidge over 10L of oil out, with my vacuum pump, and only ever carefully measures 9.2 litre of new oil into the engine. Which works out at 8% dilution. OK I used the 10litre Draper but filled it to gunnels and there was always a little more Rolling with laughter so not very accurate but close. My car is still set on 7% dilution in algorithm so it's close enough for me to believe its reporting correct.
Some of you will have had the 7% alarm moved to 10% dilution Rolling Eyes

Next time I will accurately, painstakingly measure out the old oil. 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

Equally, the lab could get it wrong, -but not 3 times in a row?
OTOH, it’s possible there could be quite a large variance between individual vehicles, possibly I have one of the better ones? Whistle

EDIT: I get 6L out/6L in, no additional fuel volume, BUT my mileage is very low 2500m between changes.

Maybe the V6 doesn't have oil dilution issues as much as V8, never really looked at the architecture between them. Maybe JLR just used the same algorithm for both without studying them?
V6 will probably run harder and generate more exhaust heat for same load compared with a V8 maybe thats enough. How effective is V6 passive regeneration versus V8 passive regeneration? that would be interesting to know

I guess as diesel will tend to separate out and float on top of oil its important to get a true reflection of any % dilution, by getting the full amount of engine fluid and shake it up Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter
then promptly bag your sample. 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

Lab results and lack of extra volume seem to bear each other out, so that validates it for me.
Passive regen? What Passive regen? Laughing
Mine only seems to passive regen meaningfully when soot is in high 40’s (percent) when I’m driving Miss Daisy trying to get to the magic 51% to initiate an active one, grrrrrrrrr. The rest of the time, it just can’t be *rsed.
It probably needs a good thrashing, I’m just far too mechanically sympathetic, lol! Rolling with laughter V6 Vogue - “Less is More” - less to go wrong!

Haven't seen a passive regen in 2 years of obsessive monitoring. I occasionally see a downward blip. If it's up around the 70mph and pulling hard up an incline the exhaust temperature will rise to around 380 and grams of soot might drop by about 0.5 for a minute or two but it soon returns to where it was. Maybe a fast run pulling a big trailer would do the trick.
