Rattling noise engine bay l322 5.0 supercharged

Hey guys,

Another day another problem with my Diva. I don’t intend to say what I think the problem is because I don’t wanna influence your opinion on the noise.

https://youtu.be/9xYffZfDPgs?si=5IcwPEN8SEN6VG3z

What do you think could be the culprit? The noise is coming from somewhere of the right upper engine compartment (right upper timing chain cover).

Thank you very much in advance and have a good eve.

Best,
Vincent

To me ( and I am no expert ), but that sounds like a chain running against something. V8 or else ...

Hi guys, thanks for your replies. Could it as well be a lengthened chain or maybe a broken VVT?

That doesn't sound right at all Sad

It's not a noise that I recognise or can make out from a recording though I'm afraid.

Hi guys,

Just had a look at the car again and I am wondering if the play in the chain is normal when engine not running hence no oil pressure. Please see attached video.

The previous owner said he changed guides, tensioners and chains. But at the moment I think he only has changed the tensioners and guides. They‘re from Apex which anyway isn‘t good.

Thanks for your opinion!

Best,
Vincent

That looks waaaaay to slack in my opinion.

Personally, with that much slack in the chain I’d not be starting the car again in case it skips teeth as if it skips enough teeth it’ll bend valves.

I completely agree with David… That don’t look right to me at all. On another note, why on earth would he not have changed the chains if he’d changed the guides & tensioner? Seams abit fishy to me… 🤔

I guess he only has changed the tensioners and guides because for the chains you need to undo the supercharger and valve covers…

Never tried doing half a job on them but I guess that makes sense? Albeit goes against everything I stand for only doing (well less than half a job!) 🙄🙄🙄
