Looks good, they tend to rust from the inside out so make sure you flood the inside with some rust preventative, easy to do while they are off and you can easily change the orientation to ensure complete internal coverage.... Pete

Now I see exactly what you meant by “easy to do while they’re off…”

I went ahead and sprayed the insides of the tubes with Dynax (UB and UC), and yes — rotating them while spraying definitely made it much easier to get full coverage. I also gave extra attention to the most vulnerable external spots where wet dirt tends to build up over time.

At last, I’ve reached the more enjoyable phase: assembly.

It’s definitely a bit of a challenge remembering where every clip, U-nut, and fir-tree goes — but seeing it all starting to come back together is really encouraging.

while all them parts had been off... few extra bits done:

driver shafts inspected and new outer boots fitted as they didn't look too healthy.
While in there, looks like someone already been there before me... see the CV inner race, somebody used hammer and chisel heavily there...

turned out in addition, which wasn't planned that A/C condenser started disintegrating itself so needed replacement too...

It’s alive!!!

I am absolutely over the moon. After a few ignition cycles — to prime the empty fuel filter and lines — it fired up on the very first attempt.

I have to admit, I didn’t take enough pictures of all the wires and hoses routings, so I ended up going back and forth a few times to lay everything exactly where it should be. Here based on my previous experience let me explain how crucial all the clips, clamps, and correct alignments are.

On my previous white Vogue SE (the donor), I was only a thin wall away from a total disaster.

One detail worth mentioning — the coolant hoses assembly that connects to the thermostat housing in the centre of the V on top of the engine block had the large clamp misaligned (not by me) with position marks. As a result, it pushed the right-hand pipe against the pulley below. Since there’s almost no clearance, the pulley had nearly shredded the rubber through. There was barely any material left.

Luckily, I caught it just in time…

Extra care taken seem to have paid off, all pipes and hoses are back in comfortably. Probably worth mentioning, if you have to fight it to put it back it's most likely in wrong place.

Swap Done.

The engine is running great, and the MOT was passed with flying colours.

I also had the wheel alignment done, since the steering was noticeably off after the repair — and that was lighting up the cluster like a Christmas tree. All sorted now.

Since then, I’ve done a few hundred miles, and mechanically everything’s solid.

Following the MOT and tracking, I had just one lingering DTC:
U201B-54 (2F) – Control module calibration data 2 – System programming failure – missing calibration
(Logged on 03-07-2025 at 154,790 km)

This seems to relate to the steering column not adjusting at all — the BCM appears to either see the position sensor completely out of range or not at all. After a few more miles, a few other small symptoms started to appear as well, but I've opened a thread in the technical section regarding the BCM issue.

It’s actually surprising how little it takes to bring a full-fat RR back to a clean, fault-free state — at least mechanically!
