I've replaced a 3.6 waterpump before, if you have a look on here for the power steering pump replacement guide by member Pawl it will give you detailed steps to get down to the point of removing the auxiliary belt.
That's as far as you need to go to get at the waterpump.
From memory, it's essentially a case of partially draining the cooling system by first removing engine under tray and front undertray, accessing drain tap on the engine radiator (n/s of radiator) drain approx 2 litres of coolant or the whole lot if you prefer.
Up top remove intercooler hoses and disconnect coolant hoses being wary of the brittle plastic junction pipe coupler located n/s of car then remove top radiator plastic shroud inc disconnecting viscous fan electrical connector.
Remove viscous fan (engine fan, left hand thread!) using special spanner and pully holding tool (eBay) then release belt tensioner and slip off the auxiliary belt.
The waterpump is held on by 4 bolts (again front memory) remove but be aware more coolant will come flooding out if you didn't opt to drain most of the system down.
Also check the idler pullys and belt tensioner pully condition whilst your at it to ensure there is no play or roughness in the bearings whilst your in there.
Re assembly is reverse of the removal ensuring to correctly route the auxiliary belt (diagram in the workshop manual) and then refil and bleed the cooling system.
Hope this helps but as I say Pawls guide to doing the power steering pump is best to follow.
