Hopefully the old one will blast & paint OK, I think so based on the DEF tank shield, which I recently took off and treated:

I’m now having second thoughts, and doing the same PC treatment with that.
The DEF tank has a lot of internal little welded brackets which make it more prone to corrosion than the fuel tank one, which only has one. It’s also in two pieces,, held together by two little bolts which seize it together. I recommend removing bolts one by one and treating with aluminium anti-seize, to save much pain later! Not a difficult job. If the two halves can’t be separated, then draining the DEF tank becomes a right PITA.

Well the fullfat is booked in at the excellent Les Potts tomorrow for its new cradle fitting, and in the meantime I found a complete adblue tank cradle (both halves) with all fittings off a crashed Disco 5 in superb condition for Eur. 30.00. Shocked Pity it was twice that for shipping Laughing Big Cry
So my PMS continues, will get these bead blasted & PC’d as per the big one, so she should be totally rust-free underneath now.
I plan to get the old bits similarly treated and sell, as they only have surface rust, so should come up like brand new. The only reason to buy new for me was not to have the car off the road, and to get the fuel tank shield done in a day, to avoid two labour charges, I’ll do the little adblue one myself, the big one just seemed too much for a single-handed driveway job, and the cost of the propshaft tools is a big chunk towards paying someone else to do it. V6 Vogue - “Less is More” - less to go wrong!

How nice is that for Eur.30? Mr. Green

It will look brand new after blast and PC in the “bedliner” finish, however my original 2017 fuel tank cradle may be borderline already Shocked Big Cry
Will see what the guys at Stella Blast say.

It just shows we need to keep an eye on these hidden things going on underneath, and these items are potential future MOT failures. V6 Vogue - “Less is More” - less to go wrong!

Thanks Pete, my old cradle is free to a good home, if anyone thinks they can do something with it, I’d say it needs blasting and patching, (one holed area, see pics) followed by PC. It would also be easy to repair with fibreglass, once the rust is gone. It would be free for collection only, near Sunderland. PM me if interested.
