Smoke in Engine Bay NSF

L322 4.4 tdv8 2011
Hi All - Looking for some advice please!

I'm getting smoke from inside the engine bay from the rear of the engine under the battery tray and sometimes coming through the central gap in inlet manifold. Oil cooler has been changed and feed pipe o rings. No oil leaks or drips. I tend to notice it coming from the OSF wheel arch, which is weird as its definitely coming from the NSF in the engine bay. It's not the FBH. Zero error codes on Gap tool. No restricted performance messages. Am worried it's related to the secondary turbo but I'm truly at a loss. Smoke seems to be dark in colour. Tends to happen once I've booted it an the secondary turbo has kicked in. Any and all advice would be welcome!!! 2011 L322 Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8 Sumatra Black. Ivory Interior.

I have but the problem has been occurring for a few months. I thought it might be oil leaking from the oil cooler and hitting hot pipes and producing the smoke. I've since changed the cooler but the problem persists. I've changed to the oil filter twice. 2011 L322 Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8 Sumatra Black. Ivory Interior.

Ps. Ive just done a smoke test (my first time!) Via the left air filter pipe and the MAP sensor. No leaks detected....if I've done it correctly of course... 2011 L322 Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8 Sumatra Black. Ivory Interior.

just do a quick check for me, carefully remove the oil filter, look into the bottom of the oil filter housing, and see if the the flimsy metal spring clip has moved or been dislodged, this can easily happen when doing a simple oil change

The photo below shows the tiny ( about the size of a 1p piece ) , rubber valve that opens when you remove the oil filter, circled in red, if it is not seating properly when you refit the oil filter, you will have oil being drained away unecessarily

not saying it will 100% solve your problem, but it is wise to eliminate this issue first !

yours looks OK, the rubber seal seems to be centred OK over the escape hole, can you see it ( feel it sealing ) when you carefully push down on it with the end of a small screwdriver ?

that's what it needs to do when you refit the oil filter.
