Well it does work on large truck, tractor and excavator engines, a smaller engine has far less inertia 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Having exactly the same issue - 2015 4.4 SDV8 with 99k miles, FSH and last oil done within 5k miles - knocking on top of the engine.

The problem seems to be there is no definitive help to sort these engines out, we are at the mercy of 'luck' when it comes to whether we are fortunate enough not to have an engine fail and when it does, search high and low and hope you find a reputable garage who will use an aftermarket or 2nd hand crank which may not last either way.

I spoke with JLR and got the run around, unless I spend money with the main dealer diagnosing the fault and that's £500 down the drain including moving it to find out what I already know, to get a letter that says 'tough' and yes, I was told by JLR not to waste my money as it would be a flat no.

Ford recalled the ecoboost engines or offered support and being a Ford unit, I would have thought they would work together to improve the situation but clearly not and this is a six figure car new, not a Fiesta. I wouldn't mind if the thing had done 200k miles but it's on 99k and just 10 years old.

Sadly the only option seems to be we take the hit, either rebuild and keep your fingers crossed, ebay or webuyanycr*p as it is, which would see a considerably lower figure than it's running value so same kind of hit as it isn't viable to spend £12k on a £18k car to find it may fail again.

Ive not followed many of the SDV8 failures

What mileage are the turbos failing at? We've never seen a single failed turbo on any 4.4 T/SDV8 Confused

I've noticed failed engines/turbos on the SDV8 anywhere from 45k miles to 125k miles based on either forum posts, ebay sales. Does appear that over 80k miles has a higher hit rate. Mine had only done 99k. Land Rover are aware of it despite my local main dealer suggesting it's only the 3.0 that has issues.
