L322 2010 5.0 S/C - Screen stuck on logo and 'FEM' is dead.

Hi All,

I've been googling for a few hours but have reached an impasse.

My car has had an issue with a wet parking aid module and I've been trying a few things in SDD to try and get something working again, but alas it appears you need a 'fresh' module so it can configure the VIN number into a new unit, it won't allow you to update an existing VIN on a module from another car.

However, whilst I've been looking into this, SDD has now started reporting that my FEM (Front Entertainment Control Module) is no longer communicating. It was, I have SDD sessions from a few days ago showing it was fine, but not any more.

So now my screen is freezing at the Rage Rover logo. I suspect the FEM has gone bad meaning that the MOST circuit is down as all the other MOST modules are not working.

What I can't work out is what the hell the FEM is! Embarassed

I'm looking through the workshop manual as the MOST section, it doesn't list anything even closely named Front Entertainment Control module (FEM) so I'm a bit lost.

I'd like to take the FEM out to see if there's anything obviously wrong with it and see if I can find a replacement part assuming it needs it.

So the question, after all that, is "What is SDD actually meaning when it says the FEM-Front Entertainment Control Module?

Thanks for any advice,
Cheers, Matthew

Howdy,

I found this post helpful in troubleshooting my 2012 NA 5.0 (bad bluetooth module). Could the FEM be referring to No. 1, the Integrated Head Unit in the dash?

Also, I replaced my parking aid module from one off ebay and did not have to program it. Worked right off the bat...

Hi,

I think it is most likely that, the workshop manual calls it the Audio Head Unit, other places call it the IHU, and it appears to be the only module I can't account for against the SDD list.

So tomorrow I will be trying to find it up behind the glovebox and see if there's any signs of life in it, but I suspect not as my MOST circuit seems to be dead.

The parking aid module I tried was from a Vogue, same ID part number , but obviously different start number and revision at either end. The SDD software still flagged it as not communicating but wouldn't let me configure it either , the warning being that there was already a VIN in the module and it couldn't update it.

I'll keep an eye out for another which matches exactly the part number, but there are few about, and as a result are quite expensive. I was hoping the Evoque one could be updated by SDD to work, but alas not.

Interesting.

I've spent today tracing the IHU under the glovebox and extracting. Thought I'd give it a quick check to see if it was emitting the red light, it was.

So having previously noted that the MOST connector to the phone module in the boot hand no light I decided to check if there was any red lights on the MOST in the boot.

I found red light going into the TV module, but none coming out to the phone module above.

So suspecting a dead TV module, I bypassed it by taking apart the two relevant MOST connectors and swapping the red input straight into the phone bluetooth module. Didn't work at first but after a bit of double checking I realised I had left the power connector off the phone module, DOH! Plugged in the power and instantly resolved the head unit logo screen and blinking power knob.

So there was no problem with the IHU/audio head unit/FEM, it was all down to the MOST circuit being broken.

Re-checked with SDD, no issues , except of course I no longer have the TV module. No great loss, I've never used it anyways. Smile

You can pick up the TV modules on eBay very cheaply, the one for the L320 Sport also fits.

I paid £15 delivered for one not too long ago and it worked perfectly.

A quick search shows quite a few in the £30-50 range. Jonathan
