After a closer look at the MS CAN wiring diagram, I decided to use the driver's and passenger's door connections to try to isolate the network, and now things are narrowed down a bit more.

It was the KVM all along!

Did you fix your problem? With new KVM module. Having problems with my KVM. |

Yep, replacing the KVM fixed my problem. I ended up going with a new KVM after learning that the used ones can really only work if someone solders on a new virgin chip to the pcb.

Thanks for the update. Cleared mine with SDD. It took a couple of hours, finally, I programed one key. It will not except the second key. Was there a water problem for your bad KVM? |

So I have a wall of errors all "lost communication with" then list any system it is probably in the list. I was thinking a module failed but I tested every fuse and then unplugged all of the modules I could one at a time but no change. You said you disconnected the KVM and canbus came back, were you able to just disconnect the unit in the rear or did you have to also disconnect the module under the dash center. can this be tested by just pulling a fuse?

Did you have a resource that listed all of the MS can bus network modules and their locations? My 2010 is doing the same thing and the medium speed can bus is down. Can't start the car or anything as it just says smart key not found and the backup key location doesn't work. I'd like to try some troubleshooting on my own before I have it towed to a dealer, but I'm not sure what modules are on the medium speed can bus or their locations. I know the KVM is in the rear cargo area and the BCM is behind the fuse box in the passenger compartment but that's all I know. |

I did resolve the on screen warning "smart key not found" by pulling the fuse for the KVM behind the glove box, I think it was fuse F5 if memory serves. However this just made that message go away, still can't start. not registering the brake among other modules so when I put my foot on the brake and hit the ignition button it turns the vehicle off instead of starting.

Some have suggested my issue is the KVM as well but my remote works fine, no on screen key not found and I can lock and unlock remotely. Could those functions still work if the KVM failed? |

I'm early in troubleshooting my own issue, so take this with a grain of salt, but if the car can detect the smart key for starting purposes the KVM is working. I do not believe the remote functions like locking/unlocking are directly tied to the KVM. My car hasn't had working remote functions for months yet it was starting just fine, suggesting the remote functions and KVM are separate. I'm hoping to pull my KVM later today to see if that helps. Like the prior poster, disconnecting my passenger door connector wakes the system up so I'm hoping by chance that I also have a KVM issue, since I know where the KVM is and apparently can replace it myself and program it with GAP IID. |

For those who may follow along in the future (or may have further advice), I went out to my car today to hook up a battery maintainer while I tested some things and to my surprise the running board deployed when I opened the door. I was then able to start the car and everything was fine for maybe a minute. Then the radio/screen shut off and a bunch of errors came up on the screen instrument cluster including blind spot system unavailable, TPMS unavailable, and camera system fault. Started driving the car and the radio came back up. When I stopped and parked I could not restart as it again said "key not found". My GAP IID was only able to scan three ECUs (BCM, CCM/Cruise Control, and IPC), with all three having faults and the BCM and IPC again reporting that the medium speed can bus is down. Unplugging the KVM and the parking module resulted in no change, so it is neither of those. I went looking for the TMPS module but could not find it. Thus far I know: (1) unplugging the passenger door harness wakes up the system and the radio starts working; (2) unplugging the KVM does nothing; and (3) unplugging the parking module does nothing. I'm still trying to figure out what other modules I should be looking at and their locations so that I can keep troubleshooting. I also realize it could be a wiring short, but I can't begin to figure out how to address that. [/list] |
