servicing costs?

was considering buying a 2018 RR, I was surprised to hear how much main dealers want to to service it fir three years, £2500...... is that because one of the services is a massive one? saying timing chain? car has done 35k miles..... what would you expect to pay with an indie for this? its got a full main dealer history so it should be tidy....

cheers

Why not get the big one done by a local LR Indy next year, and then go DIY?
You can then afford to do extra work like more frequent oil and other fluid changes.
The car will then be getting to an age where condition & evidence matter more than full dealer SH.
In fact IME, some LR dealerships cannot service a car properly, so it’s no guarantee of anything. V6 Vogue - “Less is More” - less to go wrong!

Servicing is expensive for complex vehicles, there will be other costs outside of this I'm sorry to say. Pollen filters for example are scandalously expensive from LR fuel filters not much better, they take a lot of oil, flexi hoses are a service item, the list can go on

Independents will be much better value and in a lot of cases more well informed on regular issues.

Well the 7Y service is just a standard oil and filter change with pollen filter easy done yourself. buy a vacuum pump and diy oil and filter change plenty of threads on the subject.

The 8Y is same again plus
Replace the air cleaner element.
Replace fuel filter element.
Renew transfer box oil.
Renew rear locking differential oil (if fitted).

Thats for a 2018 SDV8
The rest can be found on here https://osh.landrover.com 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

Service plan quote I got for my P525 was £2700 for 3 years. Car is a Dec 2020 registered 2021 MY with 42K miles on it when I boight it last year. I meant to buy the plan, but in the end didn’t bother.

Serviced this year at 51K miles at a cost of £844, including the MoT, so about £800 for the service itself.

The big service on the diesel V8s comes at year 10 and was one of the reasons I swapped out of a cherished SDV8 last year, which was 9 years old. The 10 year service at MD prices is £3k and abut £2K at a reputable indy.

As for doing it myself? Two problems; 1, I don’t have off street parking and 2), I wouldn’t trust myself with such a complex car - last car I did any servicing on was a 1976 Mini Clubman, which was simple, but I struggled to get things like ignition timing right. My view, possibly not popular with other members here, is that If I can afford the FFRR, I should pay the price a good main agent or indy charges to keep it properly fettled. 2024 - >. 2021MY L405 5.0 SC Portofino Blue

It is just a car with an internal combustion engine. Main dealer fitters are just average humans* trying to make bonus by doing a job in less time than the manufacturer says it should take. It is not some dark art that only handful of humans can do. Most fitters have the same ability as a competent DIYer, they just do it more often.

Flashy showrooms - who pays for that? £250 hour for the above? F.R.O.!

Third year service implies the following:

Carry out vehicle inspection checks as documented in the WSM instructions. Where available also perform an eVHC.
Replace interior air filter.
Renew engine oil and filter.
Renew brake fluid.
Renew transmission oil.

Price I paid for at an independent, including labour, spares & oils:
trans oil: £205
the rest: £140
I didn't change the brake fluid, did that 1 year later for around £50...

Land Rover does not manufacture its own filters, oils, or spare parts. Instead, it rebrands products made by other established manufacturers.
When it comes to replacement parts—especially items like pollen filters—there are excellent alternatives available from reputable brands at significantly lower prices. For example:
• Land Rover OEM plain pollen filter: £46
• Mahle carbon antibacterial filter: ~£14
That’s a substantial difference, especially considering Mahle is a trusted name in automotive filtration.

Couldn't agree more with this, I had my last SDV8 serviced 3 times by LR for the extended warranty and each time they missed something, did something wrong or just generally didn't care.

2nd Service they skipped the diff oil's, it was obvious because the bung's were bone dry, old and the dirt had not been broken around them. When pushed "Workshop oversight". Had them re do the whole service and send a video with bungs removed.

The last time it was serviced it came back with a BritPart fuel filter.. they couldn't understand why I wanted it replacing with a genuine item. Apparently on back order, so they used what they could get their hands on, never asked us or reduced the price.

Servicing is no different to any other car, other than greater quantity of oil's and more places to put it - its 100% Brand Tax. I think I would find a good independent next time, who cares.

VW just did the brake fluid on my Van, £50 and it came back with the washer fluid and ad blue topped up at no charge as both lights were on. Thumbs Up Sold - Bell a 2015 MY16 Loire Blue Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

I bought the spare parts myself (used Autodoc to order transmission oil and filters). For the engine, I chose Toyota-branded compatible oil (manufactured in France) and replaced it myself, along with the oil filter. I also changed the air filter and pollen filter.
For the transmission, I went with ZF oil. The labor cost was minimal since, in my case, there’s no transmission filter that needs replacing.
