Screen Crack

Censored

A huge stone has cracked the screen on my 2014 Autobiography. Last week, I curbed a newly refurbished wheel...!

Anyway, I've booked a replacement with Autoglass and told them I want an OEM screen. They're referring back to Admiral to see if they will approve it. I'm hoping so as I've had a multi-car policy with them for 20 years with no claims at all.

Assuming they do agree, how can I tell it's an OEM one and what should I be testing to know that it's all been fitted OK?

See what markings there are on yours - lower passenger side

AFAIK, a full genuine one will say Range Rover on it (like the side windows do). Alternatively, you may get a Pilkington one without the logo which I'd expect to be fine - that's what mine is.

Mine has acoustic & heating logos on it

Definitely push for a genuine or OEM Pilkington screen. I didn’t and now regret it. National Windscreens/Aviva fitted a XYG brand screen to my L405 last year. It simply is not the same quality/standard. It’s 4.8mm glass rather than 5.6mm on the OEM screens. Although it’s says it is acoustic I feel it is not as good at sound suppression as the original.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm waiting to hear if Admiral (my Insurer) will provide an OEM screen.

Ironically, I checked the cracked one and it's actually a previous replacement, made by AGC Automotive - an Italian company.

My Insurer (Admiral) refused to authorise the fitting of an OEM screen. They did offer me the chance to upgrade to one, but it was an extra £1,040 and the JLR shutdown meant that they couldn't confirm a delivery date.

Apparently, Admiral will only fit OEM if your car is less than 2 years old.

So, I went with the aftermarket screen, which I'm assured is just as good. It's being fitted now.

Job done and they fitted a Pilkington one, like Alistairs.

From speaking to the fitters, they say that this is as good as the OEM one, which would be the same albeit with a Range Rover logo.

In any event, they thought the Pilkington one was better than the Italian one fitted previously.

I had a similar crack after a stone chip and used Autoglass. They fitted the Chinese equivalent glass. It has all the same features, like HUD, solar, heated etc. Wiper performance is better, perhaps because it is new (old one was 5 years old). I can't tell the difference between this one and the factory fitted glass, so it's a good copy so far as I am concerned.

Autoglass were great. I used the Enflied branch, north London, after checking google reviews of their branches. They refitted my French and German emissions badges, and the dash cam. All features were working and this was checked with them while I was there using their laptop gizmo. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso
