Wire leading to brake pad sensor, repair?

My “Brake pads worn” light came on yesterday, no biggie I thought Ill get the pads replaced. However, today, I spotted a lead hanging under the car on the inside of the rear right wheel. Crawling under to inspect - the wire snapped about 10 cm before the brake pad sensor (how strange), but everything else like the harness and the plug seems to still be intact.
· Can I just splice the wires to reconnect?
· Do I need to worry about matching a specific wire/polarity?
· What’s the best way to secure the repair, route the lead through the original clips, and clear the dash warning?
Im on quite a lengthy and remote trip currently, so this would be some bush mechanic effort. Is there any consequence to just letting it hang there for the next two weeks?

Just been through this. I'd forget about it. It's only to tell you your pads are getting towards the end of life and before you start gouging the disc. But if you're supposed to fit discs with the pads what's the point? Probably so that 'Sir' can book into the dealership with plenty of notice! More modern variants probably flash up warnings of imminent death and don't allow you to not drive directly to the dealership! Rolling with laughter

A complete wire is about £12. I think there 4 different length possibilities.

Mine is disconnected with no ill effects on cars brain. I might fix it one day, then again..

I had this happen in the past after changing my brakes; either i didn’t put it in place at all or didn’t put it in place properly. For the minimal price and effort of the new one, i just replaced it.

It'll not affect the actual braking of the car, so fine to drive without. Replace when you get the chance.

As far as I know, the wire has resistors in it which change the resistance when it gets worn through once the pads wear down. Hence why once its worn through, it cant be re-used.

In the interim, you could splice both wires back together if you wished ... but it'll likely not be long enough to do easy, so to keep the car happy whilst you're out in the bush, I would consider:

- pulling the sensor end out of the brake pad
- splicing the wires back together - will send the right resistance to the car again.
- zip tie the spliced wire out of the way till you get a new one. V8 or else ...
