Fortunately mine were fine so that saved a few quid. Saw a post recently from a forum member saying that they're very hard to get refurbished as parts are not available. Maybe worth looking at secondhand units as new are crazy money. Charles Trent seem to have a few and list the vin of the donor vehicle, so you can check history on topix (when it's back up and running). L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.

I might have to message Charles Trent

Maybe worth giving Turbo Technics in Northampton a call about cores, used them before a few times and was impressed with their setup, very helpful guys who have been around since turbos were invented! L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.

Turbo Technics refurbished both of my turbos. I was lucky that mine were still in a condition where they could be rebuilt. For the primary turbo, there aren’t many parts available, so in most cases you need a new unit; the secondary turbo, however, can be fully rebuilt. Cost £714

Just to add, Turbo Technics is an official Garrett turbo repair shop.

Hi guys had a moment of glory got the engine in remanufactured turbos to cover my self got engine in filled with fresh oil and coolant running perfect for 15mins then started struggling running rough. Switched off then back on then click…me thinking engine is stuck but only to find oil in intercoolers again 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 got into intake can move the crank a full turn then stops so I’m guessing oil in intake but…question where did the oill come from??? Any help

When you rebuilt it, did you give everything a good clean and blow through all oil galleries? I'm assuming you fitted a new oil cooler as once contaminated with swarf they're impossible to get clean and could then cause turbo damage again if not replaced?
Only route I can think for oil in the intercooler is from the turbos or possibly from the oil breather if that malfunctioned and the oil was sucked through the filters and then into the intercooler.

Have you checked the drain valve that sits below the oil filter to make sure that's intact and hasn't allowed oil into the breather system? L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.

So it was a second hand engine seen it running and was running in mine. The. It started to go wrong. Had recon turbos from mellet as well so I know they was good. I just don’t understand where the oil could have came from. And the oil was black and I put 8.5 litres of good oil in it

I guess you need to start working through the scenarios and checking filters etc to try and assess the potential damage. An oil service fill is 9.4 litres, but 8.5 isn't going to cause a failure.

I'd check oil filter for debris, oil filter drain back valve, check air filters, turbo impellers and then pop injectors out and see if it turns over without resistance.

When I finish work tomorrow gonna get the injectors out like you said but you can heat oil slushing around when turning the crank, fingers crossed I can get the oil out.

Where is the oil filter drain back valve?
I’ll try and check the turbos as well

If you remove the filter you'll see in the base of the filter housing a flat spring clip, kind of a horseshoe shape, there should be a rubber grommet attached to it, so when the filter is screwed down it pushes the grommet downwards blocking the drain back hole. The idea is when you change the filter you firstly unscrew the housing a few turns, this releases the pressure on the clip and allows the grommet to lift and allow residual oil to drain out of the filter housing, if it's missing it allows oil to drain while running which will overwhelm the breather system and fill the airboxes which could/will then be sucked into the intakes. L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.

I'd not be cranking the engine on the starter before you get the oil out or you're going to do more damage, turn it by hand to confirm it's freely rotating before using the starter. L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.

Right I’ll definitely check that because it was only running for so long and that makes sense for it to send the oil into the intakes/intercoolers. I’m hoping it’s just that. I’ll update tomorrow

Yeah I’m not doing the starter motor doing with a ratchet spanner to push the oil out. It’s weird as when moving the crank you can hear oil slushing

Is the sound coming from the intake hoses or cylinders? If it's the hoses you could be sucking more in from the created vacuum, if that's the case I'd drain from the lowest point (bottom intercooler hoses). L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.

I’ve taken the plenum off and you actually hear the it main intake itself.
