I know all about it all. I would always buy, for example, a much cheaper L322 4.4TDV8 in the UK with a good but neglected engine for around 4000 GBP, drive it under its own steam via the Eurotunnel to Munich, rebuild the still-good engine 1:1, and sell the rest in parts. I've already done that; in the end, the engine was practically free. You can then disassemble the old, defective engine in peace and sell parts. Best regards, Uli, and also a big thank you to this always helpful forum full of gentlemen. I'd suggest whilst it's apart it would be sensible to replace chains, guides and tensioners anyway.
