What to do with the Sunroof drains

Now here's the dilemma,

I finally plucked up the courage to check the sunroof drains today.....

Don't just fill it with silicon. The water has to go somewhere... Yes, it flood out of the front or back of the tray when you use the car, but if there's enough of it, it could also spill into your B pillar and we all know how that ends!

You're only seeing half of the story from above. Drop the headliner and it will help you decide what to do next.

I've fixed mine today. Take a look here. It's not as bad as you think once you get into it - especially if you know how to take the bloody vent / light out!

Thanks for the words of encouragement sullivj,

I have just made up an order of parts, so looks like it might be a job that needs doing before the weather turns. The thing that scares me most is removal of the B pillar trim and headliner as they are leather, and I have never removed the B pillar covers. Like you say once you're there it's probably not that scary, and if I am going to do one i might as well do both.

Any advice on trim removal and replacement would be gratefully received. Can't stand a rattle from broken clips!!

Plenty of daylight, time and cups of tea is all i need, and the obvious words of encouragement from you guys. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Trim removal was easy. Just pry open the ‘airbag’ signs to reveal the torx screws or bolts. Once they’re removed, a good ‘yank’ removes the trim and none of my clips broke.

There are lots of different types of lights / vents in the headliner (I’ve watched ALL the videos - LOL!). If yours is like mine, you now know how to remove it.

You may be able to get away with ‘just’ sleeving the pipe like I did and kurusting the surface rust on your tray. Where in the country are you?

I can’t be certain, but it probably works on the same principle because you can’t release it around the edge.

I had a very corroded one that must have been completely blocked. As soon as I touched it, it gave way and I was left with a hole Shocked

BluTac worked fine for a couple of weeks, including some heavy rain, until I was able to fix using some inserts.

Hep2o inserts -

https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic74149.html

On the good side it went straight in - after rust eater applied & epoxy used.

On the corroded side I needed an extra bit of pipe to make the connection.

on MY'21 I checked mine and the have these black coated metal tips and I see some kind of black overspray - maybe they made improvements on this year... regardless I cleaned mine and just covered the inside, and inside edges with outdoor high temperature black paint (the ones used for BBQ's).

Just check that the water is flowing out of the car as expected by the rear wheel. One of my drains was blocked at the exit point.
