I have a 12 Westie and I also have a whirring noise which is really annoying me also. Even though the car is getting on, has 135k miles on it she has been extremely reliable for me and especially as she is not my daily. You have done huge work on this issue so hats off to you.

I'm convinced mine is coming from the front left so I have bought new wheel bearings but havent installed yet.

Did you ever get to the bottom of your issue or did you just by ear muffs? Current yokes

did you get anywhere with the road speed related whine from the front left?

I have exactly the same symptoms but not located the issue yet. Have changed the rear prop shaft support bearing to no avail. About to change front left wheel bearing in hope.

I also have wheel bearings to go in, Im going to do all 4 as Im up to 225km now so why not and while Im in there Ill do discs and pads all round and free up one sticky caliper. Im not convinced its bearings yet but as I say at this mileage its work doing.

Hopefully original poster will come back with an incredibly easy fix! Current yokes

As a thought, could the propshaft have caused damage to the input shaft/seal/bearing on the rear diff?
Even the output shaft on the transfer box?

If it only happens when the wheels are turning, this could be a viable situation.

Not a RR but have had this on a Lada Niva where the UJs on the propahaft weren't acting on the same axis. This caused vibration that wiped out the input shaft bearing on rear diff.
