Hi on my dash ( 05 facelift TD6 ) The trailer light is illuminated, when you touch the brakes or the indicators it goes off then comes back on once the brakes or indicators are cancelled, and when you turn the car off it sasy check trailer light?

Any ideas?

have a look at the trailer socket under the the back , it could be damaged or water might be getting into the socket itself and causing a short ..

Come to think of it, after i washed it and took it out in teh rain the light was off......i will have a look later and spray some switch cleaner in them

Is the trailer light only on the face lift models?

I ask because my 2002 does not have one or if it does I have never seen it and my car spends most of its time towing.

I'm following this with interest, i tow a fair amount and have yet to see the trailer light on (TD6 MY06). I know i've had a trailer & horsebox with dodgy connections/bulb out and still nothing. Socket was replaced last year.
On my '95 Classic it was on all the time.

I have the same on my 07 model and my mate does on his 02.

I was told by Land Rover it comes on due to too much resistance in the form of dirty bulb earth or similar.

Mine I think is due to the caravan bulb holders being lightly corroded

might be a bad earth. i get that sort of problem now and again hitching the wagon up to various trailers.hope this helps

i've just looked at the handbook and there is nothing suggesting that there is a trailer light....i can only assume its a warning light on the dash that lights up when towing...

it looks like the facelift models have this feature and not the older ranges... ... - .- -.

the facelift has a different dash hence the added warning light.. ... - .- -.

When I spoke to my delaer about mine I was told it only lights up when it detects a problem (ie resistance due to corrosion) and the check control for the car covers the trailer lights as well (Provided it's wired with the correct box of tricks I assume!).

Under normal circumstances the light doesn't show. Which differs from the old days when we used to have a "tell tale" on the dash.

My P38's flash with the indicators and check control does the lights.

My 07 has nothing but the check control and the trailer light showing when hooked up. (I can only assume as I said above it lights up when too much resistance is in the connectors for the bulbs due to corrosion etc)

Right, it's still on but ive been monitoring it and trying to find out why its on!

My lights are set to 'auto' so if its dark, the trailer light isnt iluminated, if the lights are off its on!!

If you press the brake ( kinda trail it ) the light goes off then comes on when you release the pedal!

If you have any indicator on for a longer period of time than normal the speed of the slash increases if there is a resistor fault or something..........
