Detachable Tow bar won't detach

Now Im a fully paid up member of the caravanning fraternity, I've refitted my towbar. When I bought the car, it was fitted, but I couldn't remove the towbar, so I unbolted it from its square section housing and fitted the square blanking plug. I left the towbar to soak in WD-40 overnight.
I recently refitted the whole thing and used the key to unlock it. The twist-knob turns and the towbar goes loose, but still won't drop out! If I let got of the twist-knob, it tightens up, so somethings releasing inside.

Short of warming it up with oxy-acetylene, I can't think of any way of getting it off. Anyone offer any ideas? 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

The spring loaded ball bearings that lock the tow hook into the receiver aren't releasing fully due to corrosion / non use.
Prise the plastic bung out of the top of the receiver and pour wd 40 in from there and keep working the knob. Hopefully the ball bearings will release eventually.
Not sure heat would actually do anything to be honest.

I confused the FFRR forum with another I post on and now I've done myself an injury.
