TDV8 Juddering at low speeds: Ideas?

Dear Collective,

This is not about my car but a friend's TDV8 which I found for him to buy. Whistle He's been very happy with it for a year so far.

It's a 2007 TDV8 Vogue and done about 60K.

He tells me that he's getting an intermittent fault which the dealer can't replicate. At low speeds, forwards and reverse, there is a juddering that impedes progress, it doesn't last too long and can come and go at any time.

The dealer has had it in and found no faults logged. They suspected a sticking handbrake but that wasn't the problem. They also suspected a faulty injector but say this isn't a problem? Shocked

Having read up on here doing some searching, it seems this IS the most likely cause of the syptoms.

Is it possible that because it is intermittent and the Dealer can't replicate it that it IS a faulty injector afterall?

Can anyone else suggest what the likely cause may be? How do you test for it or diagnose which one to replace?

I really want to help him out because he says if they can't solve it they will sell it Big Cry Discovery 4 HSE

Check discs for discolouring any binding will heat them up and turn them blue, especially the edges.
Fronts will transmit vibrations through the steering wheel.

Have the dealer checked the shoes inside the rear discs to make sure the shoes have not delaminated?

OLDERS, http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/post67230.html#67230 had an injector problem..maybe get another dealer to check for any logged faults but as this person found http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/post14008.html no logged faults.
I think injector issue would need a good specialist to find.

Hope this helps Thumbs Up

I can't actually view the car as he lives a few hours away so have to go by what he tells me.

So, thus far it could be any of thw following:

Binding brakes
Wheel bearing (unlikely i think)
Gearbox needs flushing and filter change
Mysterious injector issue

Any more suggestions I can pass on to him? Discovery 4 HSE

Sound similar to a problem I had on the Aston though not sure if it would be being as different fuels?

The problem on the Aston is a sticking throttle flap. Basically remove the air inlet pipe next to the throttle body and clean the area including the valve edges.
Don't know enough about diesels to know if it could be a similar problem. Range Rover Autobiography 5.0SC

I have exactly the same problem on my almost identical car.

Haven't solved it yet. Have had intermittent fault codes generated on cyls 1 & 8, do far once on each, but they havent come back after clearing them.

Not sure where to go next..... Waiting to see what happens I suppose! Incidentally, I was quoted £3,600 to replace all injectors with refurbed parts. Not today thank you!!!

Will post again with any developments and look forward to hearing if you get anywhere with it. -----------------------------------------------

I've sent him my suggestions and waiting to see what he does, I doubt he will spend nearly £4k trying to fix it though, it will be bye bye Range Rover, hello something cheap. Discovery 4 HSE
