Buy a second hand bmw key, and buy a shell with a blank blade (both on ebay). Get the blade cut to match your car, and take the innards from the secondhand key, and insert in the shell. Hey presto! 2012 SDV8 Vogue SE |

arrr, not quite that easy, yes the above post is correct but you will need it to be coded, now range rover wont code a bmw key unless you know some one, the pre 05 range rover key uses a Phillips PCF7930AS Transponder chip

I too had this problem, I went down the main dealer route. However it's definitely worth phoning a few to compare prices as I found they varied quite alot. Also they all charged different amounts to then code the keys . I know there is a means of coding them yourself but when youve just bought a new one you want it to work! |

Can it be done remotely or will the vehicle need to be present?

The car would need to be present to code a brand new key I believe. however it may be possible from some of the articles I read to code the key yourself . Think it depends on vehicle age. I'm sure someone more learned will appear to help you. |

When I asked for a new key at the dealers, I was told that it's delivered pre-cut and pre-programmed, with the info taken from the vehicles chassis number held at LR. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded |
