Front Wheel Arch Liners

Well today I got round to fitting my side vents but I thought while I was at it I would tidy up the previous installation of the mudflaps/side steps. All went pretty well but the fixings, screws bolts etc are not really reusable and so I have ordered some more, currently mudflaps and lower panel are not refitted.

But the thing I am struggling with is the wheel arch liners, they are currently distorted probably due to not being trimmed when the steps and mudflaps were originally fitted. I say that because I've read somewhere, probably here, that you need to trim the wheel arch liners after fitting mud flaps. Is that the case? currently mine are pushed back a little at the bottom near the mudflap and also don't sit behind the lip of the wheel arch at the top.

So help is the cry Very Happy can anyone cast some light on what I need to do to fix this Bow down

Thanks Geoff

I have this issue on one side of mine still to fix. On the other side however I pre drilled hole through liner if that makes sense and was able to insert the screw into the arch liner which then stayed flush.

Hi Geoff

My wheel arch liners were dreadful when I got my car, massive gaps at the bottom and they wouldn't stay inside the metalwork at the top of the arch. The dealership just replaced them with new ones and they seem better. Still looks a little messy at the bottom where the gaps are a little larger than I would ideally like but much improved overall. My car has never had mud flaps

Those Simon are my symptoms in a nutshell. What I read suggested poor mudflap fitting but actually with my head under the wheel arch this afternoon, I did think poor liner fitting full stop. What I will probably do is loosen all the fixing points for the liner and see if it can be persuaded Very Happy to sit a little better. I still think there is a bit of trimming to be done of the liner but I shall just snip away where it seems appropriate.

Obviously wont be doing much else until fleabay delivers the various nuts, bolts and glue that I've ordered Laughing

Thanks Geoff

I was a little offroad in mine this week with work and just washed it down as was filthy and find that on both sides at the rear of the front wheel arch the liners and fixings have gone awry presumably due to all the mud and stuff being flung at them but also both sides the rear plastic panel below the grills is flapping about at the bottom edge and it looks like fixings at the front are broken.
Has anyone got a blow up diagram or something of how the liner, the inner wing and the plastic panel are supposed to fit together?
I am tempted to buy some mudflaps and use the screws or scrivets through these to old all in place. Anyone any advice???

Ahah found the answer with one of the powerful UK videos. Might be investing in some side steps and integral mudflaps. Better stop after this glass!

Try heating the liner with a hair dryer or hot air gun and reshape them

Forgot to say, I heated them with heat gun and "moulded" them back in place finished off with some black PVU adhesive to hold them.
All fine now. Geoff

I heated a blade of a Stanley knife to carefully trim the liners around the mudflap mounting brackets and then "persuaded" the liners to spring back into position.
Got a good fit with no holes.
Definitely made trimming the liners easier.

I have gone off the side steps partly as someone else obviously wanted them on ebay!! Maybe its someone on here?!
Anyway I am going to go just the mudguards route.
My car is a 2005 touchscreen model with but with chassis no starting in a 6. What is the difference in the mudguards needed for a pre 2006 car with a post 2006 car as I dont want to pick the wrong ones but then again I didnt think the bodywork itself changed between 05 and 06.

Problem is some flaps say for cars up to 2006 and other say for cars up to chassis no. 5a999etc.

Am confused!!!

Two types of flap available... One triangular and really quite large but stiff... The second alot more subtle and thinner and more flexible off road, the later is thinner type...

Hope that helps...
