i went with Pete Bell, an expert Land Rover tuner.

Similar sort of device, but he writes the map to suit your own car.

You download your original map and email it to him.

He tweeks it and sends it back for downloading to the device.

You can then switch between the two maps.

Great service aswell!

Do a search he did do a forum cheaper deal.

Just to highlight that the standard map as supplied with the Bluefin device for the TDV8 might work better on some cars than on others. I had mine mapped by Evolution chips and the orginal map that was supposed to be suited to most TDV8's made the car run like a dog. Once I contacted them they supplied another map and this time the car was amazing to drive smoother with more power etc. So if some of you are doubtful the map has made a difference this might be the case and I would suggest contacting Superchips as they are likely to have other maps available for the TDV8 which might better suit your car. Thumbs Up

Ok, its just after i read the above, i got the impression they just send out standard written maps, not maps written specifically to your car.

I looked at Pete Bell but a similar service to Superchips costs almost £600 so I didn't bother, although he got glowing reviews on here. I have to say I didn't see the discounts anywhere but it would have to have been in the order of 40% or more to get the same price.

I'm with Stan as well on the characteristics of the engines being similar, if there was any major difference then that would be as a result of some issue already existing that would be best fixed before doing a remap.

If the remap googsy2 got made the car run like a dog, it was probably either the wrong one or a duff one - and it would have been duff on any TDV8.

I really shouldn't post when I just get back from celebrating Team GBs performance Very Happy Geoff

Has my FF been on a diet?

Quick review as I've not had enough driving time yet.
My car, in my opinion has been positively changed by the remap, it feels a lot quicker away from a standing start and for some reason very very quick to accidently exceed a 30mph limit. Although the TDV8 is a very capable motor it still feels like its moving the 2.5+tonnes of FF. Due to the extra 'zip' it has after the remap, it feels as though the car has lost weight, altogether much more sprightly. It doesn't feel at all as if the engine is being over-strained, quite the opposite for me, the engine sounds a bit quieter / more refined ( I question whether this is 'placebo effect')
The most advantageous effect on performance I have seen so far is 50-70 mph, when you need the power for overtaking on A/B roads. Press the loud pedal at 50mph and it's like slapping the @r$e of a thoroughbred racehorse, she's away like a shot.
Keep the pedal pressed and you find an 'extended' period of very positive acceleration, she pulls and pulls until you glance down at your speedo and realise your fast approaching a ban Shocked

It would be unfair to try and make a comparison for MPG figures now as I'm still trying to evaluate the performance gains.

At £344 (that I paid), this is a very competitively priced option from a long standing and well respected company. On my last car I paid almost double this price for the same tuning system from a different manufacturer. I personally think its worth the money for the extra performance aspect alone, if there's a economy increase too, that would just be an additional bonus. On my last car I did see a 4/5 MPG increase on long steady away journeys, so I believe it is feasible to see a small increase this time too.

I wouldn't buy this product if I was looking solely to increase the FF's economy, I'd have bought a different car....

I'll be doing a long-ish run next week some motorway and some more minor roads, so I'll do a fill up, to fill up and do the maths for an MPG figure.

sounds good dave, in fact i had the same results from my remap, smoother gear change, better mpg, and more throttle responsiveness ,but after about 10 days the range went back to original...its a fact that re-loading a map be it original or altered will reset the gear settings and mpg etc , so it would be interesting if you still have the results after a couple of weeks driving.. ... - .- -.

Well this was fun if not very short-lived for me.

I bought the Bluefin for my TDV8, and the whole thing in terms of customer experience was awesome frankly.

Ordered it, got a text saying it would be delivered August 1, got a text on August 1 saying exactly what time it would arrive and who the driver was etc. It arrived right on time.

I did the initial connect/upload of the map currently on my Rangey and then did the CD ROM thing and waited for the confirmation text that my new map was ready.

One of their technicians then emailed me about an hour later to say that my car already had a very good custom map on it! Talk about honesty! My options were to take the Bluefin one and if I didn't like it all they could do was return it to factory settings not the custom map that was already on it.

So I sent it back for a refund.

I guess that explains why I get 29.5mpg on a 180 mile run with an average speed of 72 mph, and 33 mpg on the same run at around 60 mph average.

I must say, even though I can't comment on the Bluefin product, their customer service is frankly amazing. Thumbs Up - Ad augusta per angusta -
