BATTERY DRAIN

HI
had the dreded battery drain put on a new bosch battery as recomended on ffrr , the new battery drained after about 7 days( away on hols) , so changed the final stage resistor, charged the battery off the rr, put battery back on rr , did a amp load check with a meter, found when rr locked the current draw the meter was 3.2amps. then , after 20 mins the rr went to sleep ,and the current draw was 0.5 amp .does this seem normal? or do i need to look for any other faults
thanks 2007 supercharged ,Cairns Blue with Navy & Parchment Interior

0.5A still seems a little high.

That means a 110 A/H battery would be dead in a week (168 hours) as you have experienced.

Start by pulling out fuses one by one until the drain drops - that might help give you a clue what's causing it. The other possibility is the diode pack in the alternator is on its last legs Sad

A very few milliamps I would think. Not more than 100 mA.

Yup...

Ran around happily for a fortnight (while waiting for the lead from Storey) and only noticed the other weekend - went caravanning and wondered why, in the dark of the night, the gear console was still lit up 4 hours after parking and locking the car...

it seems that the lid has contacts in it and they complete a circuit when closed.. ... - .- -.

UPDATE
Changed nav drive now current draw in sleep mode is 0.16 amps (160ma) is this acceptable ?
or do i need to look further?
thanks

I was going to start a new post on battery drain this week whilst on holiday. I suffered a flat battery and I'd not long fitted the big Bosch 5 yr warranty jobbie.

What I noticed was the jump lead post that is mounted on the plastic bulkhead type trim had melted the surrounding plastic and cap both sides. On closer inspection, it looked like this post had got incredibly hot at some point, hence the damage. I removed the leads from both sides of the post and cleaned them up, before bolting them together. It's been fine since then.
I can only assume that charge hasn't been getting to the battery due to poor conductivity and it's steadily gone flat. I don't think I'll bother replacing the jump lead post either. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

Hi Steve
It's still abit high, I would start checking for other live circuits. I always aim for the drain to be around 0.01A to 0.02A when I'm fixing a battery drain fault.
