TD6 battery drain located!! (fuse numbers enclosed) - HELP!

Hi all
As most of you will know I've had a drain on my new Varta I1 battery that has sometimes been running it flat within a week to 10 days Sad
Bought a fuse drain tester as advised by a few of you and found 3 fuses with a draw, they are:
Fuse 28 - headlight cleaning @ 0.12a

Fuse 27 - glovebox light @ 0.47a (when open)
@ 0.13a when closed

Fuse 12. Starts off at 1.28a
Drops to 0.82a after 10secs
Then sits at 0.26a

Are any of these 3 common issues? And how do I go about resolving them?

I've only checked the top row of fuses so far as can't get to the lower row with the tester, is it easy to release the glovebox cover so it hangs down freely?
Thanks in advance everyone

Releasing the glovebox - push the hinge stop strip to the side whilst taking the weight of the glovebox lid - then swing the box lid down. Graham

Cheers A1GSS

Does anyone know if the 3 fuse nubmers are a common fault? Or are the values high enough to be a drain?

Thanks again

Fuse 28 headlight washers/wipers
Could be a faulty headlight washer/wiper relay allowing current to pass.

Fuse 27 glove box light, interior lights, windscreen washers and analogue clock. All common to BCU.
No idea. Smile

Fuse 12 ac and heated front seats. Supplies ac blower motor.
Almost certainly faulty FSR.

Collectively you have at the moment 510mA current drain, acceptable would be about 30-40mA.
No wonder your battery drains. Very Happy

Cheers guys (and Graham, sorry........... For........ The...... Long pause)

Nicedayforit, I changed the FSR last year so doubt it could be that? Open to suggestions though.....

STEVE57, what fuse was you getting the drain on? And did you change the whole drive? What was the cost of this, and where did you source one from?

Thanks again everyone

Hi
I had the exact same readings as you same fuses , i put in a bmw mk 4 sat nav drive , got it from ebay. This is the later dvd sat nav. Bought the updated software and dvd map disc, search google for bimmer nav, the change from mk3 to mk4 nav drive has been covered on here, as i said earlier , my original mk3 nav drive was not shutting down, even though the red light was off. I was told there maybee a problem with the nav drive
. I hope this helps 2007 supercharged ,Cairns Blue with Navy & Parchment Interior

Cheers Steve, will take a look.. It's one of the mods I been considering anyway

Is there a way of testing it first? Like removing the mk3 unit and seeing if the drain disappears?

Thanks again

Cheers Steve

Anyone, is there a way of testing to see if it is the satnav first? Can i unplug the unit, if so where and what plugs? Or can i pull a fuse somewhere?

cheers

nicedayforit

Thanks for your calculation of my total drain, can you please show how you come to that value? (genuinely interested). I'm assuming fuse 12 is my biggest drain, how would i look into this further?

Thanks again

Fuse 28 - headlight cleaning @ 0.12a

Fuse 27 - glovebox light @ 0.47a (when open)
@ 0.13a when closed

Fuse 12. Starts off at 1.28a
Drops to 0.82a after 10secs
Then sits at 0.26a

Headlight cleaning 0.12A ie 120mA
Fuse 27 0.13A ie 130mA
Fuse 12 0.26A ie 260mA

Add all the mA and you get 510mA.

Thanks again nice
Fuse 12 (ac, heated seats, blower etc), I put a new FSR in a few months ago so doubt it could be that? Also, if I was to just remove fuse 12 and not use ac, heated seats etc would that temporarily eliminate the drain? (sorry not sure how it works)
Cheers

Removing fuse 12 will stop the battery drain going thro that fuse.
It may well switch off all ac functions ie heating, cooling and ventilation.
It may also switch off all the seat functions ie movement and heating.
I'm not certain how many functions you will loose, could be them all.
The battery drain on that fuse will stop though. Smile
Imo I wouldn't rule out the new FSR causing the battery drain, new or not it is still the most likely candidate. Unfortunately I know of no way to test them other than by replacement.
I suppose you could put the car on a diagnostic unit, it may show the fault.
Sorry I can't be more helpful.

On reflection, there is one thing you could do.
Disconnect the battery earth and leave the car for an hour.
Then touch one of the terminals on your ammeter to the the battery -ve terminal and the other terminal of your ammeter to the earth point nearby.
You may need to fit a length of cable to one of the terminals to do this.
Doing this means that your battery is connected to earth and as such the total battery drain on the car will be evident.
Be interesting to know if it's different to the total fuse drain.
