The twin screw is a much better design and setup and will give you the same boost for a lot less drain from the engine never mind reduced intake temps which again help with power..

If you can get a bolt on twin screw it would probably be a great mod to go with a remap and sports cats Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Indeed, unfortunately the kit and fitting is around £8k. Since the GF is hinting were at the "new house, marriage and kids" stage it's not something I can easily get away with. However without the new house, marriage and kids I could have a L405 Supercharged and no GF to tell me off for driving it in a "lively" manner. Hmmm decisions decisions Whistle

8k!!! That is a lot!

Is there no direct bolt on unit at all??

I would have thought most SC engines would use the same mounts and such so as to be cheaper even between diff manufacturers FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Well the labour is about £2k to have it installed, and at the same time you have to ensure everything is at it's best in the engine, or the twin screw will cause havoc. There's a bit of adjustment needed, but I think the FFRR would be cheaper as you wouldn't have to change the throttle body to a 90mm one as I think we already have that.

TBH the internals and other bits should be ok unless you start running more boost.

Its more the power you can extract from just being more efficient and having lower charge temps thats the biggest benefit and will allow a small increase in torque i would bet Possibly be a bit more frugal on the juice being as it wouldn't need as much power to drive it Smile

i wonder if its a roots style again on the 5.0 sc and how much it would pony up with a scroll type Very Happy FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

If it's more efficient (lower pumping losses etc. - as you allude to), output will be greater at the same boost level as the smaller/less-efficient compressor.

Only if the pulley is the same diameter will their be an increase in boost or pressure, ideally the pulley would increased in size a little so as to ensure less airflow is pushed through and that its matched to near standard or just above. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Boost pressure is in effect just a measure of restriction - 1 bar through a small supercharger is not going to produce the same result as 1 bar through a bigger one.

True it doesnt take into account flow which is measure by the AFM but for most intent purposes is the easiest method for most people to understand whats happening in the simple form of for say 1000 rpm input you would get the following out of either type;

Roots =6psi
Twinscrew =9psi

So for the same amount of power in youd get a good increase and the pressure would be increased from the fact that it would be building up behind a partially closed throttle body unless WOT at which point the boost would likely still be higher but have a denser volume due to lower temps.

boost is the easiest way for 99% of the population to get their head around the increase in power that relates to the amount of air you can get in an engine. Now being a petrol the Air-Fuel Ratio needs to be within a certain amount so requires more work on the part of the ecu and injectors to keep up, but with a diesel unit you can push as much air in as you want or the engine can handle, this is why when you change the way air flows into a petrol engine a remap is a good idea mainly just to check things over. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

The 5.0 uses an Eaton "next generation" twin-screw I believe. It also has direct cylinder injection which is why it has more power but is more frugal. It can also push 575hp with just a remap, changing pulleys sends it north of 600!

Ahh that is very good news indeed Smile

So the 4.2 is Direct Inlet manifold injection then? Curious for such a modern engine but still seems to work i guess Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I've replaced both the intake resonator and the air box with the following:

90mm o.d. Polished stainless pipe. The intake elbow is simply a 90deg bend with the inlet and outlet in the same place as the existing resonator it has a 15mm I.d take off brazed on with 16mm I'd silicon hose for the pcv system to connect to. The air box pipe has a denso maf holder brazed on, a heat shield and a green cotton k60.90 cone filter. All connected up with silicon hose connectors.

2. Depends on pulley size. Mine (+6% speed) gave a good 20-25bhp improvement around the 2500-4000 rpm mark and around 5-10 bhp at the top end. This is due to the Eaton being at near max efficiency anyway, so spinning faster just generates heat.  ... - .- -.
