So I bought a new transfer motor!

My mech fitted it yesterday and said its now in trans fail safe and now is in limp mode? He said he can't access the ecu or auto box via his diagnostics ? He's saying that it'll have to go to a land rover dealer to have the codes cleared?
Unfortunatly no dealer local can do anything till the end of january??

This sounds expensive and long winded? Is there any manual way to clear these?

Prob is its stuck in limp mode and I can't really drive it? I keep thinking I've bought the wrong car???

wouldnt a IIDTool clear these errors.. ... - .- -.

You shouldn’t need to reset a TRANS FAILSAFE PROG error as it should reset itself each time the ignition is switched off & on. Your issue must be always there. How does the transfer box shift motor react to the manual calibration procedure?

After trying the calibration, with no joy we found fuse 52? (ecu power?) Had blown, after replacing the fuse and deleting codes then doing the calibration again all works perfect!

Amazing what a bit of luck, knowledge and good eyesight can do. my love for my full fat has returned!

My transfer box started to make crunching sound and now and then, remained in high or low with the yellow mountain symbol flashing on dash.Cured flashing by turning on and off ignition. Went to my Indie, who removed the motor " cleaned all movable parts and lightly lubed all. Replaced and now working well again.( cost was 60 Euro) Told to USE
MORE OFTEN , 3-4 times a week, so as Kurt posted, I try to it daily up any slopes I encounter.Don't know if permanent fix or not - time will tell Range Rover Vogue TD6 2002

RRPhil ....... You are a god!!

I've sorted mine to after taking the motor to a local starter & alternator repairer. The brushes has shattered in the drive motor. They replaced the bushes for £30. I did strip the gears down, it was built without any lube and gave it a light grease re-fitted it and it worked first time.

Just a quick update on this problem. It's now playing up again & the gearbox has gone into fail-safe mode. I'm trying to find a good second hand motor if anyone has one lying around? As RRPhil said it must be the electronics that's at fault & not the motor. The car is off the road again, the fifth time in the last 12 months  Range Rover 4.4 V8 Vogue

It's the potentiometer Range Rover 4.4 V8 Vogue

I found several on ebay for £3-350 when I was looking last week, ended up getting one for £70 worked just fine, my guys at work reckon the potentiometer can be sourced or remade, I must try and find out. One day your life will flash before your eyes......................................make sure yours is worth watching!

A re-manufactured one sounds good  Range Rover 4.4 V8 Vogue
