Can't see the tow-bar with the reverse camera - solution?

Guys, I tow a large-ish boat quite often, and it's a pain not being able to see the trailer hitch as I back up to it. Can anybody point me in the direction of a thread which talks about fitting a camera that can actually see the tow bar, and plumbing the picture into the centre screen?

I have not heard of anyone being able to do that on the L322 and I think it is due to the location of the camera, it can't see around the edge of the tailgate.

Have you considered getting / using the Venture cam ?? MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

you could get an aftermarket wireless camera/monitor or you could try and re-position the existing camera so it looks downwards more but i dont know if this possible..
there's a how to n the wiki re fitting an upgraded camera, maybe that will give you some ideas.. ... - .- -.

There are aftermarket solutions that allow for the camera to be built into the tailgate near the license plate lights or in the spot of one of them. Or you can move the camera of course. All these type of options take quite a bit of work and knowledge.

The Venture Cam is a Range Rover (Disco as well ???) camera that is a loose unit and can be placed outside the car or used hand held. It interfaces with the car via Bluetooth and shows on your screen. What I don't know is whether it is "overridden" by the rear view camera when backing up. But members that do have the venture cam may be able to tell you. The cam sits in a little cubby hole underneath the dashboard on the passenger side. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Excellent, thanks. I'm having a tow kit installed next week at the local Perth LR dealer so they may know something about it, I'll ask them. Thanks for the heads up, appreciate it. 2012 L322 TDV8 Luxury

Thanks Stan...looks like a cheap solution. It's a pity in one way though, I was hoping there might be a logical, built-in solution from LR. Seems strange to me that with all the tech they pack into these cars - RRS and Disco included - they fit reversing cameras that can't see the tow bar. Seems a bit weird considering one of the major uses of these cars is towing vans and boats. 2012 L322 TDV8 Luxury

Vision Assist/Tow Assist is the only way to do it. Saying that, with a bit of practice you should be able to do it alone without getting out if you use the same trailer all the time.

You can also put a catcher on the tow hook (someone on here did that), to make it easier. And a little antenna "stick" on the trailer so you have an aiming point.

In the US I saw a towbar that slides and hinges out. You drive close to the trailer, connect the bar by hand, drive forward and back and it locks in place. Can't for the life of me remember what it is called, where to get it etc., sorry. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

get a long stick with a small flag on it, stick it on the top of your tow ball using a magnet or sucker, so as you can see it in the rear view camera, then when it gets knocked off by the hitch on the boat you are in the right place........ something like this.

or the same thing on amazon

I have been using the venturecam for trailer hitching (horsebox regularily [sp?]). I have been waiting for trailer assist for the L322 to come out but nothing seems to be moving on that front.
I have available camera channnels available via the touch screen - bluetooth?.
Are there different frequencies for blue tooth or are all assigned to one?.
My idea would be to add a fixed camera for attaching trailer and adding the ifor fixed camera.
Any tought on whether this would conflict n the available channels.
Or sould i order extra venturecams?, in the box i look aft forward - would prefer the wide angle forward aft fixed on....
