Engine heat drops with fan speed.

YO.
I have this thing thats a bit irritating as its sow cold these days.
What happens is that the engine has problemes keeping warm. If changing down to a lover gear the rpm goes up and engine goes cold. I gues it has to do with the cooling fan turns faster, but should i not be able to hear the fan noice if the silicon clush is locked. I remember i hade this problem with my -90 ford xr-4x4. It made a lot off "fan" noice as the rpm truned up.

Anyway, iw just changed the termostate without any difference.

Love to hear from you fullfatt rr basterds.

If say your viscous fan could be sticking on more than it needs. Take it off and see if it improves the problem Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

As kp ^^^^ says take the viscous fan off.
I think you could quite happily leave the fan off most of the year where you live.
I used to do this on my Discovery with no problems.

If you mean the central vents in the dashboard are blowing cold air, that is possible. Underneath the vents, right in the middle there is a little wheel with red and blue dots on it. It allows you to separately from the rest blow warm or cold air in. Dial that wheel to red and there should be warm air coming out. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

LOl, had to read your reply twice as I thought you joked. This goes for the all the vent outlets, front and rear.

Sounds like an airlock to me Sad

Is there pressure in the expansion bottle when the engine is warmed up r does the water in the header tank bubble?

This kinda makes sense after a stat change. The heater matrix pipes in some cars can be a pain to bleed but the Ffrr in sure can self bleed to an extent once most of the air is out of te system. Also is there enough coolant in the system and a strong mix for your areas average winter weather?? FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

KP is right, could be air in the system, as well. All the more reason to keep an eye on the expansion tank and maybe overfill it a bit while it is bleeding. Driving with the car will also help, try to find some hills so the car rocks left/right, front/back to dislodge the bubbles in the system as much as possible.

You can also look in the user manual (can be downloaded as well) for the settings of the wheels. It is quite handy in colder, sunny climates where you want to heat your feet and cool the top because of the sun. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Man I felt arrogant when I sow the horizontal air mix wheel under the front fan outlet. It was set to cold.
Sorry man, and thx for pointing this out.

No air in the system and antifreeze fluid ok.

The car just goes cold at higher rpm. Sow Iam back to the enginefan. What are regulating the fan speed? -03V td6

Glad my tip was of some help Smile

The fan sounds like an issue looking at some other posts on the forum. It is regulated by the viscous coupling that warms up and starts doing more and more. If it locks up, it will of course do full blast all the time. So as suggested, just take it off for now and see if it helps. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Let's just explore the viscous fan operation for a moment:

When it is not needed will it stop turning altogether, or will it turn a bit but without "power"?

How can I test if it is "locked" all the time ?

I am asking as having problems along with DavidP of not holding temperature on TD6 when in cold weather and wondering whether the viscous fan has anything to do with it? .

When the engine it not running it could be evident when you push it by hand and it gives a lot of resistance.

When the engine is running but cold and it seems to be running full blast, another indicator it is "locked". MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
