don't think its my viscous - tomorrow i will have a look whist the engine is running- temp gauge indication drop now when at idle. But returning from Antwerp just now steady guage steady in upright position -All very confusing.

edit to ask - if one actually looks at the viscous with the mark1 eyeball whilst the engine is 'warm' and running would you see it turning?? - and what about the electric fan forward of the radiator?

Back to Joe90's post earlier where he asked is there some turning of the viscous fan. Just returned home and parked up for 10mins, temp gauge slap bang in the middle - no movement. Just started up to move back and temp gauge at 1/4, ok its -7 at the moment, FBH activates. Using the opportunity to check the fansd, i left it in idle, temp still at 1/4, FBH on, peering through the grill 'electric' fans still, but the viscous fan was turning - not with great gusto but all the same turning. Wondering if the turning is normal?. Bit long winded i know but......

If you mean the central vents in the dashboard are blowing cold air, that is possible. Underneath the vents, right in the middle there is a little wheel with red and blue dots on it. It allows you to separately from the rest blow warm or cold air in. Dial that wheel to red and there should be warm air coming out.

The cable connects to this little wheel using a completely crappy bit of plastic.
Mine broke, on the cold setting, of course.
Remove the vent piece to see the plastic crap.
That made me sad. Jim

It will turn a bit with the engine, it locks more as the motor gets hotter. One day your life will flash before your eyes......................................make sure yours is worth watching!

Thanks Johnny. I had a text exchange with the UK based [Hailsham] Chief Engineer last night. He said the same, some turning with engine in idle. Did the engine off test, fan turns both ways with a little resistance. So it's back to the drawing board.

Hi,
Iam awaking this thread as its winter and the car suffers from not getting hot. You know, as long as iam pressing the engine it gets worm, but as for driving normaly, downhill, with High rpms it the heat just drops.
Some good feedback is as allways appreciated. -03V td6

Take the viscous fan off for a week and see what happens.
You don't need to worry about the engine over heating, all diesel engined cars are significantly over-cooled in winter temperatures by way of there design and operation. They run cool for a lot of the time hence the fitting of FBH.
