Most likely a bottom balljoint on its way out. You should get it investigated sooner rather than later

You'll get a clunk from the front rather than a creak I would have thought.

I had a creaking on the rear suspension that turned out to be a rubber bush. Can you say for sure it's at the front?

Creaking balljoints are common and once they start its best to have them changed as soon as possible. I had one on my TD6 that was just starting to creak when I replaced it

Technically easy but can be a PITA getting the balljoint off, your need a ball joint splitter and be carefull you do not damage the boot above.

if you get someone else to do it the job shouldn't cost anymore than £100 including parts, whole new arm with balljoint = £50 and hours labour tops, any garage can do it not a specialist job. Might also be worth considering doing the other side if not done already, it will possibly go soon aswell. 2004 black Vogue TD6

If you are getting the noises do the lower ball joints as mentioned.
Be worthwhile doing the track rod ends too.
My TDV8 was making clunky noises and my local Indie LR specialist Mike Aitken had a look and would not let me away without doing the track rod ends, it didnt fully stop the clunking so a few days later he did the lower arms too.
Now it is nice and tight.

My pal's D3 had new balljoints and 40k too, my 7 series were the same so it really just comes with the beefy cars TBH.

This noise is not a clunk its like an old door closing and the strange thing is it only happens when i turn the steering wheel tto the right it does not make a noise when i turn to the left on listening it also appears to be comming from higher up than the ball joints

Its a toughie

If its creaks when stationary then get someone to wiggle the wheel while you hold each suspension arm, you should feel the vibration at the same time as the creak. Failing that you might need to get it on a ramp mate..Good Luck.. 2004 black Vogue TD6

Does seem strange.

As suggested might be a good idea to get it on a ramp
