trailer lights

Have had the check trailer light message come up,but
in the three years i have owned the car i have never
plugged anything into the towbar socket. Also offside
indicator flashes fast as if a bulb is out, if i then use
nearside indicator message clears and both indicators
work as normal for about 100 yards then message reappears.
Electrical gremlin or something more sinister. Any help or ideas
appreciated.
Dave.

Is the socket clean and dry? No obvious signs of damage? Previously..

Maybe also have a check in the boot for any signs of water or damp where the trailer socket connects to the main loom. Previously..

Hi all, trailer light fault still showing plus car now has suspension locked out
light on.local indi fault tested it yesterday and not showing any faults on suspension
but seems to think that car thinks a trailer is hooked up and putting into lock out mode.
can i disconnect trailer loom socket without it interfering with the rest of the electrics.
if this can be done which socket needs to be disconnected.
cheers dave.

simplest way would be to follow the wiring from the outside socket and then un-plug the plug.. ... - .- -.

Cheers Stan, looking at fitting instructions i assume i can just
pull plug from white siemens box in rear fuse box area. just dont
want to mess any electrics up.

It won't be a sticky pin sir as the male/female connectors just slide over each other... You can just unplug the ECU in the right side of the boot and it will deaden the system... I would guess the ECU has a problem... As stated above, check there is not a leak in that side of the boot. And, the spare wheel is secure (as the trailer wiring runs across the back panel) and could be squashed or chaffed if the spare is not secured...

The car only knows there is a trailer plugged in by the brake light check circuit so would stand to reason that if its a problem with the wiring, it will probably be the brake lights Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
