No, they tend to take a while... My best guess is thats the time the ECU's take to settle down... Thumbs Up

Having tested the car this morning as advised by Craig, without load a healthy 14.8v. Once loaded as described, the voltage drops to 11.73v Big Cry

I am assuming I need to replace the alternator as is struggling once loaded?

Cam-Tech-Craig wrote:

B, when your testing your alt output, 14.8v after 2mins... Leave the car running and then put on all the lights, the heated screens, the blowers etc etc etc which will really make your alt work hard and keep an eye on that reading... It will fluctuate slightly but should not drop much below 13.5v... Much under that and you have issues sir Bow down

Thumbs Up

Part numbers should read YLE 500440 & YLE500340 , typo I expect.

There are 2 lr part codes depending in vin number....

Yle550440 8a268514 ->
Yle550340 7a000001 -> 8a268514

I'm wondering if they changed it....... Cos it was failing and they are the difference between the 6 ribbed belt and the 8 ribbed belt?

Conor are you after of before the vin changeover? I am after so mine is yle500440

Just a theory......

14.8 is spot on, but maybe worth putting everything on electrical in the car & rechecking. It maybe that its breaking down under load. If you do change it & need any advice feel free to ask. It is a pig but not that complicated. Good luck Mike Thumbs Up

Just checked mine using the inboard voltage readout, read 13.5 to 14.5 pretty much constantly however did drop down to 11.5 when I threw a load of gadgets at it..... But that was with both screens blowers lights and seats on?

Does that sound scoobied? There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Good yes impending doom imminent it's a tell tale sign happened me whined for about month and a half. Really noticeable when cold up to about. 2000 rpm then it's drowned out by engine but then it returns when decelerating. Mine then got worse and after a non start the following day the red battery light appeared so luckily had enough juice to get to garage. Present :2008 TDV8 HSE

No whining yet. Pretty ok waiting for it to go but have got a few continental trips planned later in the year so will need to be done for then. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

How was the surgery? Easy enuff? I am pretty handy with a set of spanners but the level of cant be bothered to do it if its going to hurt me is quite high!

I take it that that the latter vin needs the 8pk alternator pulley? Going to order one off ecp to have in when it goes and it can go to my local mechanic if its too hurty as he only charges £30/hr. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
