"fluttering" noise during heavy downpour.

Driving along the m/way last night, it started to absolutely throw it down, so much so that the roads were like rivers.

Last time I was driving in such heavy rain, I noticed a weird fluttering noise from underneath the car that stopped when I slowed down. Same thing happened last night at around 50, but again stopped when I slowed down.

It's almost like there's something under the car that's flapping when the rain hits it at speed.

Anyone got any suggestions what's under there that could behave like this in heavy rain? Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Water bouncing up and hitting the cats in the exhaust? They get extremely hot and would vaporise rain ...

I could see that, but it's very regular, rather than random, until I slow down Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Loose mudflap or wheel arch liner?

Many years ago my Dad bought a new Ford Cortina (1968). On Right hand bends it made an awful 'graunching' noise, so it went back to the dealers, a number of times, they could not find anything. Turns out it was the passenger side front mudflap had been fitted about an inch too low, and when there was a passenger in the car (my Mum!) the extra weight caused the mudflap to contact the road surface! Hacksaw solved the problem (we cut my Mums leg off!!) Rolling with laughter
