I will probably get the gearbox done at the next service as it is a bit clunky at low speeds when downshifting around 2nd gear, not much but you can feel it slightly.

Got rid of the Disco as lower arms needed doing and the Range rover suspension was not worn or noisy and now it is. Typical Big Cry Is it a big expensive job like a Disco 3 or is it an easier job to do?

cheers Alex

For the gearbox get the latest software update as well. I had the oil changed in mine at 75k and 105k and so far it's been ok. Had a slight clunk going from 4th to 5th today, but I did have my foot down so it was changing at the "redline" umm ... best stop in case someone works out the speed Wink

Well got back today after doing 1800 miles round trip to the Czech mountains, driving round there for a week and home again last night and this morning. Averaged 21.2mpg or the whole trip which I was very pleased with considering there were three of us, all of our luggage, bikes on tow bar bike rack and then car had serious amount of extra things in for way home so that was pleasing.

However, during our trip we had the following issues:

Engine misfire from cold on one occasion with no warning lights
Reduced Engine Power displayed on dash five times in one trip and would not go above 50mph. Fuel light nearly on so on advice of LR dealer filled tank which cured issue as turning off and on again didn't and without plugging in was something to try.
Check coolant light came on twice and coolant light had dropped below minimum of cold level filling line in tank. Topped up and dropped slightly but stayed where it was for the remainder of the journey.
Rear suspension squeak getting worse and sounded like an old Trabant.
Sat nav decided to pack up this morning when we arrived at the channel tunnel in Calais and then worked again a few minutes later.

Going to LR on Thursday for investigation for lack of power and coolant loss/use and get the suspension sorted out as it is very irritating.

my daughter loved the car and being able to watched DVD's on the way back, however I have in The Night Garden stuck in my head!

cheers Alex

Did Iggle Piggle not have the answers to your technical dilemmas then? Laughing

Ours had the Reduced Engine Power warning/ actually lost power on the motorway a few months ago and the reason was that a new SC water pump was required.

Have you checked your coolant expansion tank bleed screw as the source of the escaping coolant (if you experience a drop in coolant and top it up, it can take a few goes and tweaking over a period of time to stabilise the tank content/ level again and the level can be dependent on how the bleed screw is behaving, amongst other things)?

Thumbs Up

No he didn't!

The water pump was mentioned on the phone and did not occur since a few days ago and have done 800 miles since. Is it a expensive job?

Can't see any external leak when having a look around so will see what they say but hopefully nothing too serious.

Thanks Alex

Alex, if - and it might not be the bleed screw of course - but if it's coolant escaping from via the bleed screw, then it can be subtle, it's also a relief really as it's a simple fix (it can be because the washer underneath the bleed screw is either missing or simply needs to be replaced. PTFE plumbers Teflon tape works well instead of a washer too.

Have you seen coolant/ fluid discharge on the ground underneath the car after being parked/ overnight?

If you're looking to have a main dealer do all of the work you've highlighted in your OP, then if parts do need to be replaced, then, I would anticipate a hefty bill.

Our SC way pump was covered by the LR warranty.

It would be nice. I would expect to see some traces of coolant somewhere if the bleed screw was leaking.

Wait and see now! Alex

On a recent 1000 mile trip in my SC Full to the top with camping and fishing gear. I averaged 21mpg. I wasn't hanging around either. Chuffed to bits with that mpg to be honest

Ref the "check coolant level" message -
I had it a couple of times earlier this year on my AJV8 4.4 NA, where I had to top up.
My Indy discovered a barely noticable split at the bottom of the radiator. There was a slight residue on the subframe - but you really had to look hard to see it.
New radiator sorted it - no problems since. I was glad of it really as the car was getting due a coolant change.
I've noticed several AJV8 cars for sale - both NA & SC - which have had new radiators.
Worth a look perhaps ?

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

Definitely worth a look. Going in Thursday for diagnosis, hopefully something straight forward rather than something that can't be found or faulted.

On my way out when I was slower and had more time I was averaging 23.3mpg

If it's a 2005 car it will need a new radiator, I had to do the same on mine and and a friend had the same issue - there was a TSB on the radiator issue, they reolved it on the 2006 cars.

It will probably be weeping from the RHS of the radiator about a third of the way up from the bottom..... Thumbs Up Stolen / Gone: 2006MY Supercharged LPG Autobiography - Zambezi Silver with Sand/Jet/Jet Oxford Leather.....

Well finally got call from dealers after them having it for over a day.

Can't fault squeaking suspension so that will have to wait a while or unitl I can look at it at work and get it done.

Reduced engine performance was the supercharger pump
Coolant level dropping was the radiator
Fans messing around in the front was a faulty heater resistor
Gearbox and engine ECU updates

Well done to all with the correct guesses!

Should be done by Monday

cheers Alex
