Hi and "Help my brakes are not working"!!

Hi, I have just joined the forum on the recommendation from a friend. I was on Landyzone for the past few years but this site was recommended as being more focused on the RR.

My 2007 TD8 is currently in the garage. I have a split brake line at the front right wheel. I thought this would be an easy fix but the mechanic called me earlier today and said he cannot get the pedal to go back to normal position no matter how much he has bled and checked the system. Each test drive the pedal goes to the floor. He claims he used pressure to fill the system and had checked everything but still is not getting the pedal to its normal position. So now what was supposed to be a simple fix is now a mystery - does anyone have any suggestions or advice. Thanks in advance and I promise I will add back some advice to the site in the coming months (i have had a Disco previously so have lots of LR experience). Rgds John

Time to do some research here but I have vague memories of the ABS unit needs to be purged by a diagnostic tool specific to a Range Rover , head for the search button and have a rummage.

am now told by the garage that it may be the master cylinder because he cannot find any air in the system. Says the seals may have been damaged when the system was empty and I was driving it (only for a few kms to garage after discovering problem). Does this sound likely?

Hmm sounds odd, the master cylinder seals would usually be damaged through over pressure- not sure how you can over pressurise something with nothing to compress?

I've heard of master cylinder seals being done for with over-zealous brake pedal mashing to bleed the old fashioned way.

I'm sure someone who knows more will give a better steer.

Have a read of this

http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showt...ad-(brake)

Not doubting your guy, but it seems odd that your MC just blew, more likely to get worse over time, unless a seal completely disintegrated.

Read up on the various tests that need to be done, it is weird that the brake pedal will go to the floor when everything is OK, just the way the servo works. .

You drove it with a "split brake hose" Shocked really Exclamation

Do you guys not have recovery vehicles over there? I wouldn't even start the engine on a FF with a split brake hose... Let alone try driving it sir Shocked
