Do not need help anymore, took a while but I eventually found the top of the dampers after having removed more of the interior than needed. Will supply pictures shortly actually very easy to replace both dampers 07 Vogue SE Java Black 3.6 TDV8

I needed to change the rear dampers on my rr, after obtaining advice from a so called expert Mad Mad I started to strip out both sides of the boot interior after about 2 hours I found that this was a waste of time. as I still could not get to the top of the strut.
After a few cups of tea I realised I was looking in the wrong place.
So here is how to do it properly and easily
I had the benefit of the use of a vehicle 2 post lift
Before lifting crack the wheel nuts. lift the vehicle and remove the rear wheels, this gives access to the long bolt that passes through the bottom of the damper, remove the nut but leave the bolt in place.
Lower the vehicle, and support under the suspension arm open the boot and remove the spare wheel cover
[img]
Then look closely at the far away right and left corner and you can just see the top of the strut peeking out from under the carpet

[/img]
To gain access I cut the carpet, it is the easy to remove the 3 nuts holding the damper in place,, then remove the long bolt at the bottom of the damper, gently lower the suspension arm and the damper drops out.,
I hopes this helps someone out

Somehow all the photos are in my gallery 07 Vogue SE Java Black 3.6 TDV8

It's all happening here with G20.

What is the likely price to fit two new rear shock absorbers? (supplementary question - are they different parts to the airbag spring units, or integral?). I had an MOT advisory of an oil weep on one of my rear shocks, so am interested.

Cheers, fanders

Rear shocks are separate from air bags, if you do it yourself, do not let the suspension wishbone fully off support when removing the shock, this will put the full pressure on the airbag and you could damage it, the shock controls the amount of drop on the suspension so taking it off means the airbag can burst, the book says you should depressurise the suspension on the corner your doing but this isn't really necessary if your careful....

It's a pretty quick job, shouldn't take more than an hour to do both.

They should be replaced in pairs.

Don't buy cheap ones, they don't last.... Pete

Thanks, that's helpful. Which brand should I use when replacing (or which to avoid)?
