Hi
I'm looking to acquire a 57 plate Vogue SE with a tilt fault. The motor is still running but stuck in the full up position. No clicking noises etc, just a smooth sounding motor. Does anyone know what I might find if I were to quietly whip off the lower 'cowl'? I know there were recalls on previous models but don't know what mod state a 57 plate might be. Hoping It would be a plastic nut issue but suspect these were modded out. Is there a clutch mechanism in the motors?

Without looking its hard to comment! There are plastic clips that hold the motors on the column that fall off... Torque tubes that run from the motor to the column... Thats if your lucky! If your not then there's brass parts (and others) that break rendering the column unserviceable!!! If this happens, there is a chance you can wind the column to your desired height using a 13mm spanner...

How often do you change the height anyway?

Just be aware though sir... A new column is a small fortune! £1300 +

Thanks. It doesn't flop about, just the motor spinning. I've read elsewhere that the plastic pinion gear can slip on the motor shaft as if a clutch were slipping. I've seen the cast lugs that can shear off an get messy. Far from a good design:-/

That's the reason why i've used the IID diagnostic to turn off the steering column return when igntion is turned off/on..
Heard stories of it getting stuck. So figured if the motor doesn't have to move each time the ignition is turned on and off it must save wear and tear on the motor
